McGhee - I was spat at.

Bit surprised that this hasn't been posted already what with it being MMcG and all.

SkySports Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee has revealed he was spat on by a supporter following his side's Scottish Cup defeat to Raith.

The Dons crashed out to the First Division side courtesy of Gregory Tade's goal in their fifth-round replay at Pittodrie.

McGhee, who described the result as the worst of his managerial career, was barracked by some of the home fans at the final whistle with one supporter spitting towards the former Motherwell manager.

"Raith Rovers thoroughly deserved their victory and they were magnificent for their fans and their manager but this was the worst result in the 800 and odd games I have had as a manager," bemoaned McGhee.

"That walk from the dug-out to the tunnel was the most humiliating in my life. It was awful and I told the players they have set me up for that."

McGhee said he did not want an investigation into the spitting incident and instead intends to use the experience as motivation.

"I don't know (who spat on me) - there was a couple and there were things getting thrown," added McGhee.

"A couple of scarves were thrown and bits of paper. I took my time walking down as I felt the fans deserved an opportunity to vent their anger at me.

"I'm not going to dwell on it. I'm going to use it as an incentive.

"I don't want enquiries into who spat or threw bits of paper. We deserved it and I had a part to play. I'm not innocent just because I wasn't out there playing."

I read the story but don't particularly care about McGhee.

05-07 at RFC meant that McGhee's time isn't so important any more, and he's a pcunt anyway so i'd be tempted to spit at him myself

Very much disliked by the Rangers support as well, not an endearing character to most in scotland other than the tims ( shock horror).

I did get to chuck 30 silver chocolate coins at him on his return to Elm Park.

You have no idea how difficult it was to find silver chocolate coins. One of the most satisfying things I've ever done.

Yep and looking at his managerial career that still has to rate as his best achievment had he stayed I am certain we would have gone up.
Those 4 months at Leicester were his only in the Premiership. One promotion with Millwall, and has pretty well failed everywhere else

Not forgetting Brighton, carrying on the good work by Steve Coppell. He is far from a failed manager though. Great work at Reading followed by relegation at Leicester before getting them immediately towards the top of Division One (good job number 2), left for Wolves and took them to 3rd in the First Division in his first full season and lost to Palace in the playoffs. That could be seen as failure, and the Wolves then went downhill after the spending power was cut by Jack Hayward finishing 9th in 97/98, and McGhee was sacked early in 98/99. After an extended break took over at Millwall in September 2000 and took them up from Division Two as champions that season, and then straight into the Division One playoffs on the back of the previous season's success. Only a 90th minute goal saw Birmingham go through at The Den. The ITV Digital situation screwed Millwall over somewhat and they lost a number of players, and finished in 9th in 02/03, surely Millwall's level at that time, and when players began to be sold by Theo Paphitis in 03/04 McGhee was also sacked (in my mind good job number 3). Two weeks later he was in charge of Brighton, and like he had done at Millwall took them up that very season, albeit by the playoffs (but promotion is promotion right?). He then staved off relegation in 04/05 (the most Brighton could hope for), and they went down in 05/06 (a question of when, not if). That was the best Brighton could hope for given their complete lack of resources (good job number 4).

He then moved back to Scotland and took over at Motherwell, transforming them from relegation candidates and leading them to 3rd in the division, and therefore UEFA Cup qualification (good job number 5). Hearts then wanted him, and a year later he ended up at Aberdeen.

In my mind, McGhee is nothing but a good manager, getting the best he can out of the resources available and maximising it's potential. However much you hate him for what he did to RFC, however much you dislike him for the character traits he shows, there is no doubt that Mark McGhee is a good manager. to say he has failed everywhere bar Reading and Millwall shows a distinct lack of knowledge of the man's managerial career.
