Skyline Would drawing with Lichtenstein have been more or less embarrassing than drawing with the Faroe Isles?

No idea... I dont get embarrased by my national team.. I do however get embarrased by teams that qualify for major tournaments and then crow about how they are gonna win and then bomb out without any fight or passion

At the risk of a whoosh, Scotland 1978?

We're on the march wi' Ally's Army,
We're going tae the Argentine,
And we'll really shake them up,
When we win the World Cup,
'Cos Scotland is the greatest football team...

"They played god save the queen at Hampden what reaction did they expect to get! C'mon the scotland support is not going to stay quiet while our biggest rivals anthem is played."

"but I will say that I stood up and proudly booed the anthem last night in the stadium."

"And to boo the Lichtenstein anthem because it has the same tune as the British anthem just goes to show how parochaily stupid they are. Not being able to recognise that it is a different country with different history and a different culture, and to boo it because it sounds English is just ridiculous. I'd like to know why Alberto says he proudly boo'd the anthem. I'd like to know what it is about the history and rivalry with Lichtenstein that enables you to proudly disrepect their anthem. Or is it really just because it is the same tune as "God Save The Queen"?"

"My comment on Celtic & Rangers fans was made to me by a friend, a Celtic fan, who said that he would always boo God Save the Queen.
=====================
But Thisteldhub it WASN'T God Save the Queen, it was LICHTENSTEIN'S NATIONAL ANTHEM. Are you really too stupid to make the distinction?"

"but play "God Save The Queen" at Hampden and you'd be an idiot to expect anything but booing. It's an explicitly anti-Scottish song, for heaven's sake."

"This may actually shock you but Leichtenstein's national anthem is not God Save the Queen."

Just a very small selection of the thought processes of many North of the wall on 606 and a couple of factual responses...Lord love us and preserve us.

Booing any national anthem is bang out of order ... I am just glad that Scottish fans dont do it as much as English fans.. However at least the SFA has the balls to say sorry for it.. Something that the FA will never have the balls to do .. Mind you its expected of the english fans

Glad you think so. However, the main point about this is that so many are saying the anthem they "so proudly" booed was GSTQ. It's not the rudeness that's in question here, it's the collective lack of brain power.

It was pointed out elsewhere that when England visited Croke Park, the English anthem was received in full respect despite what the English had done INSIDE THAT GROUND in recent history, never mind elsewhere in the wronged country an awful lot longer ago. The offensive verse in GSTQ was removed ooh, a couple of hundred years ago - its only the Scots that still think it is relevant today.

Who cares about the so called offensive verse???? Are you trying to have an argument with me about what some pratt put on the 606 messageboard???

I'm English fan who has never once been involved in violence, hooliganism or anything beyond crowd banter at a football ground.

Just want to say, LOL at any England fans pointing the finger at other fans. I'm guessing most on here would never dream of booing a national anthem. However, mark my words, many others in the stadium would. I still remember the reception the German one got in '96.

Pretty poor by the Scottish fans and those 606 comments are plain thick. Unfortunately I wouldn't expect much better south of the border.
