Kitson12 We signed Lita for £1m from L1 Bristol City, Austin has done more in L1 that Lita did, therefore £1.5m is worth the "gamble" as you put it.

You won't know if he's 'worth' the gamble until he's played at least 30 games in this division. No striker is guranteed to make the step up.

Good strikers cost money. When you see the fees that some players have gone for, I think anything up to and including £2million would be fair for Austin. A young lad with a proven goalscoring record. You aren't going to sign him for next to nothing.

Given his record it's about what you'd expect for him really... but that doesn't mean we'd be right to pay it if our financial model doesn't have that amount of money available. Because every player is a gamble to some extent, even those proven in the same division or higher.

This.

If our financial modeLOL doesn't 'support' paying market rate for an up and coming English forward from League One, then our financial modeLOL doesn't support a push for promotion to the Premier League.

That's bollocks and you know it, as our financial model hasn't changed markedly since prior to the time we were previously promoted. We didn't spend £2m on a player then and we won't now.

We weren't selling £7 million plus worth of players every summer back then. We've raked in over £25 million of sales since we went down.

Our financial model - and whole ethos - means we won't pay more than we think a player is worth, and we won't let uurselves be ripped off.

So I can imagine that the conversation with STFC went along the lines of :

RFC : We're interested in Charlie Austin. How much would we need to bid to get him?
STFC : How about <whatever>?
RFC : You're having a laugh! Let us know when you're prepared to take <whatever - x thousand>.

What's that got to do with it? Sigurdsson came through our academy. Speaking of which, our wages are also likely to be far lower too now due to the influx of academy players in our squad.

Didn't we break our then transfer record then? We'd always come across as paying the right fee for the right player.

The highlights are only up there for a certain amount of time, I assume, they were taken down this morning. Apologies.
