Late Kick Off

by floyd__streete » 19 Apr 2011 14:07

What a shambles of a show this is. Presented by a disinterested, sarcastic James Richardson who would (unsurprisingly) far rather be sipping a moccha in Florence whilst read the Corriere dello Sport, it also features Graeme Murty - legendary captain, godawful broadcaster - and Leroy Rosenior who has an annoying lisp and a habit of getting high-pitched doing voice overs of midtable League Two goals.

Yesterday's show plumbed extraordinarily low depths; two disinterested Brighton players were interviewed in the studio - neither offering anything of any remote interest, natch - before poor old Murts hosted a piece about Southampton which managed to irritatingly inter-weave post-match interviews through the coverage of the actual match. Dire. Absolute can't-be-@rsed bobbins from the BBC thanks of course to 'the unique way we are funded' to cover lower division football so bloody appalingly. And why divide it up into such large regions? Seriously, I don't give a tinker's cuss about Cheltenham.

Bring back Andy Steggall and the Meridian Match.

never watched it tbh, but does sound a bit shit and as much as Richardson is OK he's way too far up his arse to present local coverage.

and Murts, as you say, is SHIT

Floyd, just you wait til later this week when i get my DVD copy of The Meridian Match. May 1995, Andy Stegall along with a fully cliched up Jim Smith presenting live coverage of Tranmere Rovers v Reading in the play off semi final 1st leg. Thats presenting.

On the large regions - Reading's always been awkward for that. Not quite comfortably in Meridian, Central or Carlton for ITV, and for this show - would you rather be chucked in with the London clubs? It seems a fairly decent show to me, certainly less annoying than the North Western version.

I'll hear nothing said against AC Jimbo, either.

This.

The Yorkshire edition is utter gash although I will tune in when Sheffield Utd get relegated.

I can't believe Floyd "doesn't give a tinkers cuss" about Cheltenham. I'm deeply shocked by this admission.

Cant believe people are moaning about this programme. It's been going on for some time now. Don't like, don't watch it! Reading FC player is decent enough.

Seriously, I don't give a tinker's cuss about Cheltenham.

They probably don't give a toss about us but believe it or not isn't the show called South and South West??!

Embarrassingly bad.

It was worse a couple of weeks ago when we were allegedly the featured club playing Pompey.

- Interview with Pompey kit man - Hey the players clubbed together so you could keep your job, what great guys they are.
- Cut to man with sound meter near Pompey fans - Aren't those fans loud!
- Interview with Kitson, yeah those Pompey fans are gr8
- Interview with His Madj - I'm Mad!
- Was the foul for the pen inside the box or not? How about a replay? No lets hear the opinion of Solent Radio

etc, etc. Oh and by the way Reading won.

No-one in Cheltenham gives a tinkers cuss about the Robins either.

Enjoyed the bit Murts did about what players are doing/thinking at an away match. Gave me an idea of what it's like on the other side. Also enjoyed his bit about why an attacking player would take the ball across a defender rather than away from him in the box, last week. It had never occurred to me before.

Of course I know you lot already know all this stuff, but I find it really interesting. They do at least try to add more of that on this show and it's much better than listening to Steve Claridge blah, blah, blah.

Its one of the first things you get taught, as a kid, when you're a striker :|

Not everyone who watches football was as fortunate to be taught that as a kid, TBM, or to have been played as a striker.
