Final Score man retires

by Stuka » 19 Nov 2011 21:18

Tim Gudgin, the voice of BBC television's Saturday tea-time football results has hung up his microphone for the final time.

Very sad to see him go but didn't realise he'd been at it since the 60's. That's quite a career. A true icon, and they'll never be another like him. Hope he has a good retirement.

Now that the BBC has moved to Salford maybe they could get Mark E Smith to read the results again?

They should just get him to all of the club's names and each number up to 11, "that's a latest", "postponed" & "pools panel says" "home win", "away win", "score draw", "draw". Then put it together each week from the recording.

His should be the voice for eternity.

For years I always thought he was a ding fan turns out he's Palace. Am I getting confused with the one who used to do the scores on sports report on radio?

Oh yeah he is a Palace fan. That sounded familiar when you said it and a quick check on Wikipedia seems to confirm it.

James Alexander Gordon? A quick wiki tells me that he's a Falkirk fan.

May be worth a bit more checking, my bro in law tells me James Alexander Gorden lives in Caversham and is a ding fan, although I can't find anything on the web to confirm it.

... a bit of urban myth ongoing here p'raps - I'd heard he lived in Toilehurst? :?

... New Statesman article available via Wiki merely states he 'lives near Reading' - though I also knew he had some physical impairment (as a result of childhood Polio) - fortunately seems it isn't as bad now as I'd originally been told.
