Call Collymore

by TBM » 20 Dec 2011 12:23

Was listening to TalkSPORT last night and Stan made some good points/ideas....

1) Have a wage cap for teams for the squad. Then any team that goes over this cap is taxed heavily with the money going to either (a) The FA to improve grass roots or (b) Split amongst the other teams to give them more of an advantage in keeping up with the big spenders

2) Player loans amongst Premiership sides should be scrapped. He talked about Man City getting an advantage by having Adebayor at Spurs, where he can play (and score) against all the other sides but not against City. He said if teams in the Premiership aren't capable of managing their squads better then thats a problem at their club and shouldn't be relying on loan players to fill the gaps - the likes of Man City can afford to "hoard" all the best players so other teams can't have them. He also mentioned that the younger Premiership players looking to get experience could go to the Championship and play (on loan) at clubs like Nottingham Forest or Reading and still improve their football enough to push for a first team place at their parent club.

He makes some good points...........but will the FA ever act?

Not sure the ball's in the FA's court on this - DCMS are looking to introduce a licensing system onto the leagues, which would be administered by the FA. Currently FA & Leagues are looking at putting together a response to DCMS's questions, and by all accounts can't find a way to agree on any of them ...
