Tokyo Sex Whale I find it quite strange how clubs are allowed to "fine" players and deduct the fines from the wages.

If I did something stupid at work and my boss told me he was fining me a weeks pay i'd kick off in a big way, probably quit.

I'd have thought fining wages for disciplinary matters would be illegal?

Surely it is almost certainly part of their contract that they can be fined for disciplinary matters. Your contract would not include this.

The maximum fine is two weeks' wages, and really it's only something that is enforced at the top of the game.

I read recently about a player at Tier 3/4 who was fined a week's wages and then let off when he told the manager that if he paid the fine he'd not be able to pay his mortgage that month.

But if you breached your contract he'd be entitled to sue you. The maximum fine provisions place a limit on the amount for which the player is liable for certain types of offences/breaches of his contract.

Tokyo Sex Whale I wouldn't sign a contract that did and don't see many clubs telling a talented player the transfer is off because they wont accept fines.

In my opinion the only reason that you wouldn't sign a contract that allowed fines to be levied was if you intended to do things that would result in a fine.
