What could Brian McD bring to the vacant England Bun Fight?

by AthleticoSpizz » 31 Mar 2012 21:04

Obviously (and before you chirp off yet again Aggers), he is still doing his apprenticeship, but...

hypothetically or not......

what qualities (that our own current manager possesses) do you think would be usable to the new England management team...whenever they may be installed?

.....one day, hypothetically or not, the likes of Adkins and MaccyD (ready or not) may be just what we need for the long term development and success of our national team.

He'd get them playing as a team and for each other, where as all we've seen for years is a bunch of overpaid individuals.

His calm approach and tactics are second to none - at this level at least.

What could he bring?

Nothing.

If he got the job, all the egos in that dressing room - let alone the press! - would show him zero respect; Fwank, Cashley and JT would ensure that no-one listened to him and they would be the "sources close to the England dressing room" telling friendly journo's like Oliver Holt how he had lost the players.

England at the moment is a basket case; the players have too much clout as do the Premier League clubs who pay their ridiculous wages - watch what happens before any friendly; its amazing how many Man Utd or Chelsea players seem to develop mysterious strains that rule them out for the England game, but have recovered for their club's next game....you even have the players expressing who they want to be the next England manager FFS! Whats it got to do with them? It also means that if the man annointed by the players (Redknapp) doesn't get the job, the guy who does will be up against it from the start.

The solution?

Radical as it may seem, I would dump all of the self appointed superstars, and create a squad of good if not steller players, with an English manager such as Pardew or Hodgson who will be paid an ok salary, but not a Sven salary, who can get them playing as a team, rather than the bunch of self serving, selfish, individual egotists who only care about themselves that we have now.

There are plenty of managers great at forging a team mentality, but doing it at a club is far easier as you see the same players day in day out. For England you only get them once every couple of months, and the team barely stays the same because of players pulling out, changes in form or overwhelming pressure from the media to drop them. It would be hard for McD's qualities to show there.

Mr A/rhroyal

and that is exactly my point, and as your last paragraph alludes to Mr A, is what we need (I didn't expect it to be posted on here quite so soon tho....expected the usual guffaws and lols etc from the usual "know-alls")

I get the impression that Ireland means more to our Brian than England.
I think he would be better suited to the closeness and tight-knit set-up without too many big egos that go with the Irish team, more akin to a club side than a national one.
The England job is a very difficult one and as MrA said the Chelsea trio appear to want to run the show as well as the massive egos of the likes of Richards and Ferdinand.
Personally I feel that the England team has become like our politicians ,i.e out of touch with the rest of society and (as with politicians) there is developing an anti feeling from the populus.
If I were Brian I would steer well clear from the job despite the fortunes to be earned and have a crack at making Reading a Premiership club that is long-standing and not just a temporary visitor.

Am I imagining it but hasn't Brian stated in the past that he sees his ultimate job as managing the national team, also stating that as a proud Irishman this means managing Ireland!
