Maguire, Kes:

in this thread we're talking about what tactics to use to win football matches. My point when talking about luck is that allowing your opponents chances which demand a good performance from your goalkeeper, or for them to marginally miss the target and strike the post, is not a reliable way of winning football matches. With the balance of play as it was, and the chances Barcalona created, you couldn't expect Chelsea to win more than 1 in 10 times, and probably a lot less. I don't think the fact that this was the 1 time is down to Chelsea's excellence, though they performed very well.

I understand what you're saying, which is basically: there's no such thing as luck.

But we're talking about tactics and I what I mean is that sometimes one team gets their approach right (ie it maximises their chance of winning) but doesn't win.

PieEater The tippy tappy football that Barca play bores me to death. That's why the prem is so popular elsewhere as it is generally exciting

Indeed, which is why I genuinely believe the Prem is the 'Best LOLeague in the WorLOLd'

It's not the most technically gifted, but when it comes to excitement, goals per game, passion, tempo etc..it pisses all over the Spanish league (IMHO)

Exciting night in La Liga tonight Winchy boy. Five teams battling to avoid the two available relegation places, three clubs trying to get the last Champions League place and anyone from fourth to tenth could get the two Europa League places.

What about the most important part..the title race? Is that up for grabs tonight?

Well as long as the Europa League places are still up for grabs then I guess you're right, it will be more exciting than the PL was this afternoon.

The title race was a very close affair with Madrid and Barca, two clubs who have a rivalry transcending football, sharing a win each in El Clasico one of the most eagerly anticipated and most watched fixtures in World football.

Really - the title race wasn't close - Madrid won it with games to spare.

One win each in games against themselves do not a season make.

Don't agree-I'm with Sandman on this:-
La Liga>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Premier League.
It takes all sorts-some people even prefer non-league but IMHO the highest quality is in La Liga.

As La liga goes by head to head rather than goal difference I'd suggest that results between the two teams are very crucial in the title race. It was very close as Real Madrid got nearer and nearer to beating Barcelona before finally overcoming them in the Nou Camp a place where the season before they had comprehensively been beaten 5-0.

In the weeks leading up to the match at the Nou Camp match Barcelona reduced the gap to four points and had they beaten Madrid it would've been down to a point.

No. You're opinion is that it is more exciting that is not one I share so I'm not going to admit anything that I don't believe.

But they didn't and the fight was over weeks before the end.
