FIFA Corruption

Video of Jack Warner talking to the Caribbean Football Union

If he feels comfortable talking about dodgy money in front of a public audience, it show the endemic level of corruption

I’d probably feel more outrage at the likes of Warner and Bin Hammam if it wasn’t painfully obviously that Blatter was on the take too, but just has a decent enough network around him to ensure he never has to worry about it.

I reckon the only reason there aren't more people obviously on the take at the FA is because they're so woefully insignificant.

Just look at the questions that have been raised about Ferguson, Redknapp, Bates, Venables, Alladyce, Graham, Hamman, Anyone associated with Pompey, Abramovich, Sinowatra etc etc etc.

The whole of football is ripe with corruption.

If you wanted to make money the FA wouldn't be the place to do it - there's far more opportunitities at any club than at the FA.

Think that's an over-simplification - as is talking about "FIFA Corruption."

There are really two layers at FIFA. You have the staff who are, in general, hard-working and conscientious and who do care - and genuinely do the best for football across the world. Then above them you have the FIFA council (elected) - who are about as corrupt as it's possible to be (with one or two exceptions).

For all their sins, I don't think anyone in the FA is actually corrupt - again, you have the staff who are in general, hard-working and conscientious and genuinely doing their best. Above them in the FA you have the layers of management who aren't corrupt as such - they're just massively hamstrung by an outdated constitution and organisational structure, and everyone there is over-burdened by all the vested interests there are. But they're not on the take.

There isn't really a route from FA to FIFA except in one role, which is given at the gift of the FA Board (i.e. the PL) so it' be a really optimistic person who went that way to try and make some money. Far far better to get involved in a football clubs where the opportunities for making illegal money are way, way easier.

Agree, the FA isn't corrupt, just not that "fit for purpose" or strong enough

FIFA 'knew of bribes' claims court report
FIFA chiefs had knowledge that senior officials including former president Joao Havelange had been paid bribes by the organisation's former marketing company ISL, a court document published on Wednesday has revealed.
By PA Sport | Eurosport

...The world governing body also agreed to pay 2.5million Swiss francs (£1.64m) in compensation - but only on the condition that criminal proceedings against Havelange and executive committee member Ricardo Teixeira were dropped.

The publication of the report by the prosecutor's office of the Swiss canton of Zug suggests that current FIFA president Sepp Blatter would have been aware of at least one bribe paid to Havelange.

FIFA have published the report on their website, but it leaves big question marks about why no action was ever taken against Havelange or Teixeira, and why the organisation went to such lengths to protect the two senior figures.

The report states: "The finding that FIFA had knowledge of the bribery payments to persons within its organs is not questioned.

"This is firstly because various members of the executive committee had received money, and furthermore, among other things, it was confirmed by the former chief financial officer of FIFA as a witness that a certain payment made to Joao Havelange... amounting to CHF1m was mistakenly directly transferred to a FIFA account; not only the CFO had knowledge of this, but also, among others, P1 would also have known about it."

The person referred to in the report as P1 is not identified, but it also states that P1 and Havelange had signed the marketing agreement with ISL on behalf of FIFA in 1997. It is known that the agreement was signed by Havelange, who was president, and Blatter who was then general secretary.

The documents state Havelange was paid at least CHF1.5m (£1m), Teixeira at least CHF12.74m (£8.37m) and the pair may have received as much as CHF21.9m (£14.4m).

The two men have dominated Brazilian football between them for the last 50 years. Teixeira at one time was Havelange's son-in-law and only stepped down earlier this year from FIFA's executive committee and as head of Brazil's 2014 World Cup organising committee after it became apparent the report would be published.

Teixeira and Havelange also tried to block the publication by going to the Swiss federal court but failed to do so.

Nope, and neither does anyone else.

Given that there were no other bids, it's probably safe to say the awarding of the 2014 cup wasn't due to bribes.

FIFA announced that the World Cup in 2014 was going to be awarded to South America; obviously, that decision was taken with no bribery involved.....

.....and the fact that no other South American country decided to bid, leaving it a one horse race was also obviously not due to any bribery.

I was under the impression FIFA rotate the continents used for World Cups and it was South Americas turn. As it is highly likely that was the case, they would only have had to bribe Argentina as they are the only other country in that region capable of hosting a World Cup. I would not put that past the Brazilians.

Having said that, economically Brazil is the only country in SA that could probably fund a WC at present.

However, awarding the WC to Oman stinks of corruption. Any sane person could have little doubt about that.
