Royalclapper One of the best sets of photos I've seen is by Stuart Roy Clarke - homesoffootball.co.uk

Some absolute beauties, particularly like the L.S. Lowryesque shot of one of the great old nostalgic stadiums in English football that was the Leeds Road Stadium of Huddersfield Town FC. It had a simply marvellous natural setting with the Pennines surrounding it. Like the shot of Springfield Park Wigan also, good example of lower league football in those old style grounds.

Wow - that Huddersfield photo bought back happy memories of our Championship winning McGhee team. It's a crime that fantastic grounds like that were flattened and replaced by supermarkets.

Picture of Eric Cantona lifting the League trophy. Is that a youthful Dylan Kerr I see 2nd right?

I miss going to away games and seeing new grounds for the first time - they were all uniquely different until they became plastic bowls

Good spot. Certainly easier on the eye than the contents of Lee Chapman's shorts.

Behind the Town End - Elm Park.

I thought the Serious Warning sign was exclusive to the South Bank. Didn't realise our visitors had the pleasure as well.

The Nest, Norwich.

In order to get some value out of my trip to Norwich yesterday, I popped into the site of The Nest to have a look. It's only just on the other side of the railway station from Carrow Road. I had been there once before when it was a small industrial estate, but that was before a night game so I didn't get much of a view.

Now the site is occupied by flats. Near the entrance there is a piece of (low quality) public art commemorating the old ground, but I also wandered throughout the area and right up to the retaining wall at the end. On top of the wall, where some people used to watch games, there is decking like a viewing platform - I guess it was in a back garden rather than being accessible, but didn't have the time to check that out as well.

In 1909 Reading refused to play an FA Cup tie at The Nest, due to the ground's low quality. So the match was switched to Stamford Bridge, obviously. The attendance was 15,000 (considerably more than were watching Chelsea play there just a few years ago).

Another, more dangerous looking, picture of the Nest.

There's several of his books out, and the first, imo, is his best. Covers Euro 96, and the start of the transition from terraces to all-seater. I picked up a copy of this about 10 years ago and it's an absolute gem.

He works with a good friend of mine for the last couple of years (they did the Africa and Brazil projects together) and he's always responded to any emails or questions I had - seems like a genuine guy who really loves the game.
