AIK goalkeeper found dead aged 32

AIK goalkeeper Ivan Turina dies in his sleep aged 32

Ivan Turina, goalkeeper for Swedish club AIK, has died at the age of 32.

The Croatian is thought to have passed away in his sleep on Wednesday night, with no suspicious circumstances.

AIK chairman Johan Segui said: "We knew that he had a congenital heart problem but he was completely healthy."

Turina, who won one cap for Croatia seven years ago in a friendly against Hong Kong, joined AIK from Dinamo Zagreb in 2010 and went on to make 89 appearances, keeping 35 clean sheets.

He also previously had spells with Greek side Skoda Xanthi and Lech Poznan of Poland.

A club statement said: "AIK Football thoughts go out to Ivan's partner and two daughters and his other relatives and friends.

"AIK Football has informed the team and other employees about what happened.

"We ask all to respect all parties and allow them to mourn in peace."

Turina had agreed a new contract until 2016 with the club during their pre-season trip to the Unites States in February.

His wife is expecting the couple's third child.

May be a more accurate statement.

It's bizarre but stuff like this happens. A friend of mine at uni died in her sleep, she was 22. No drugs in her system (she didn't do them anyway), post mortem revealed no cause, she just died.

That must be worse in some ways. No closure. At least if there is a cause then people can process it.

My m8's best m8 (no Royal Lady-o) died in his sleep when he was around 23, his mrs was preggers too. Post mortem showed he had some heart issue that was unknown before. They actually said it was amazing he hadn't gone before that as he was a fitness freak and regularly took part in triathalons etc

Yeah pretty much. Especially as it was the first (and only) death I've experienced of someone of my generation.

I'm assuming that there must actually be a cause, but medical science hasn't developed to the stage as to work out what it was that killed her.
