Barry the bird boggler Reading have benefitted twice from these circumstances, once v Watford a few years ago and once v Rochdale at Elm Park in 1975. On both occasions the ball missed the goal but a goal was awarded.

genome Speaking of Watford, they were very unfortunate again last night, the ref/lino decided this wasn't a goal![]()

To be fair, the Tommy Youlden shot did hit the net, just the wrong side of the post.
The Watford one, however ...

Pretty standard from this bloke, he's been shit every time I've seen him - 9 games. One of the more memorable refs and that's nothing to do with his unfortunate obvious deformity.

stealthpapesBig Foot Talking of goals where the ball hits an advertising board and then bounces back out - I'm sure that in the late 90s, Leeds won at Southampton 3-0 (Michael Bridges hat-trick IIRC, distinctly remember him doing an Andy Johnson style burger eating celebration as he was a bit chubby) & Mark Hughes thumped the ball home from a set piece, only for the ball to hit an ad board and bounce back out - no goal given.

there's also the infamous Clive Allen one.
