No Fixed Abode It's pretty frustrating when the officials indicate there's 4 minutes added on time then perhaps one teams will make a sub to 'waste' time - the ref should add on some extra time but many fail to do so. Or sometimes when a goal is scored.

They seem to add the extra 30secs on for an injury time sub, but they certainly shouldn't for a goal. Unless it takes an undue amount of time to restart play, a referee should never add on time when the ball goes out of play. I've seen plenty of refs do this though, which is clearly not right. I'm sure during the infamous Reading/ Arsenal 5-7, the ref added on time when Arsenal made it 3-4, despite having not done so for the previous 6.

He will only add time on if the ball does not come back ie fan's mucking about with it. You would however get time added on if playing on a council pitch and the ball runs down the bank behind the goal onto the A33 and the goalkeeper has to go and get it.

Sanguine is correct - this is a rare moment, poorly managed by Kettle. Refs do add on time for substitutions in injury time.

Most do - but it isn't always the case.

From Despair To Where? We call for refs to use common sense

do we? I only hear sh*t pundits come out with stuff like that. One man's common sense is another man's anti Chelsea conspiracy when a decision doesn't go their way

When a team score and spend a minute celebrating in the corner, with the fans etc - why shouldn't the ref then add the time on?

Always accused of defending referees etc but I can't defend referee kettle at Wimbledon. Thing is he was no doubt technically correct but you just don't blow your whistle for half time as the bloke is about to shoot at goal. Created all that carnage by his own poor management.

As an aside, I'd be inclined to officially stop the clock when a goal is scored in any case.

One of the most embarrassing and tedious parts of the modern game for me is the unseemly goalnet scramble over a ball after a goal is scored. Also if you stop the clock then perhaps the players can actually celebrate scoring without worrying about being booked for delaying the restart or "overcelebrating" whatever that means. Football is a relatively low scoring game and It's part of the passion involved in making it what it is.

As long as it doesn't start getting ridiculously elaborate or directly incite opposing fans then I don't see the problem.

taking the ball and running back to the halfway line with it after scoring is filed away along with kissing the badge etc. it achieves nothing, but thick fans think it means that player REEEEEEAAAAALLLLY cares about their club.

They should then, that's an undue delay in the game like I said. Not just for a goal full stop, that's a normal break in play like a corner or a goal kick.

That's why I'd advocate stopping the clock after a goal. You can take a quick free kick, a quick throw, a quick corner etc but for all the reasons mentioned you never take a quick kick-off.

I rather like the "getting the ball back quickly scuffle"

Scenes like 4:35 in this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSrIsO-vSv4 are to be savoured. 4:55 for some comedy shadow boxing.

Not able to see the clip but is that the one where Gordon Cowans gets booted halfway into orbit by the keeper after scoring a penalty rebound?
