LUX Pleased they won though 8)

They drew the game  ...(.but won the trophy).
Palace showed in the second half of last season that they are a decent side and if they keep the current squad they will cause a few upsets (see Man City).

For a Charity Shield game it was quite entertaining but Liverpool were caught out by the new full-backs being unfamiliar with holding the back line.

A good wake-up call for Liverpool in a game that meant less to them than to the opposition with Slot taking off the two expensive signings when leading 2-1presumably to manage the minutes for some players ahead of the real thing that starts on Friday night.

BTW as we are talking about the weekend football, what a disjointed team Selles put out for Sheff Utd with so many attack-minded players and with no balanced structure to the line-up.
Poor Tyler Bindon and the other centre-back had no defensive back-up from midfield as Bristol City were just allowed to come at them through the middle time and again with the inevitable outcome.

Think the established “lesser” sides in the PL are closing the gap a little on the elite sides and those elite sides now have to try a lot harder to get the points off them even though many of them strip the lesser sides of their stars each season.

Really not convinced by Liverpool at the moment, they’ve improved the first team attacking quality immeasurably but defensively they’re still all over the place (think in virtually every game since February they’ve conceded at least 2 goals) and the general state of their overall squad is poor as there’s still no quality depth to it which has been a problem for them for years and why they haven’t won more. No doubt it will be rectified before the window closes but they desperately need 2 centre backs and still have need of the decent DM for which they have been looking for the last 5 years, as Gravenberch does get injured and suspended from time to time. Perhaps Bajcetic might be the answer there though - if he can ever stay fit long enough for someone to find out!

Think they're gonna focus on outscoring the opposition, looking at the signings so far.

Salah can't have too many elite-level seasons in him (still be better than most tbf)

Liverpool are a defensive shambles. Regularly conceding 2 goals a game. Think Konate needs to go, looks like his mind is elsewhere. Slot’s plan seems to be to accept the defensive shortcomings and look to outscore everyone.

Well I suppose it’ll be exciting for everyone.

Lastly, first day of a new season and already the VAR idiots are back. Just how the **** wasn’t that handball? But then Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor were the officials running the game, so perhaps not so much of a surprise.

Oh, and a good move from Liverpool to disable their racist fans so they’re easier to spot (perhaps other clubs should follow suit amongst their fans)?

Man City looked very different yesterday.

Far more direct, far more exciting to watch.

The Ljinders effect?

2 Peps are better than one!

Looked well dodgy for the first half hour then got a goal against the run of play and took off.

United looking pretty good against Arsenal, but should have invested in a proper GK alongside their attackers. Raya has made a worldie at one end and Bayindir has gifted one. You can't beat the best teams when you give them gifts like that.

I thought Man Utd looked very promising. Best I’ve seen them play for a long time.

As you say, they simply HAVE to get a GK.

Donnarumma to United just feels inevitable to me.

Not so sure about that, listening to the various reports on 'Utd Youtube' channels. Think it'd be too expensive in terms of fees and wages

Seems like an obvious solution, but you'd need to shift Onana, which may prove tricky!

It's weird how you all hear that, when I, a person who knows many other Spurs fans, never hear it

Yeah, tends to be how it is, Spurs have quite a lot of American fans who domin8 Twitter and all that, but a lot of UK going Spurs fans are sound and pretty realistic.

Personally I think top 6 and a good run at a domestic cup would be a good season. Now the trophy monkey is off the back, it's going to be interesting to see how the team deal with the pressure of winning now

Good story this, eventually.

16 year old Skye Stout signed her first professional contract with Kilmarnock, which the club announced on X. The post was met with a torrent of personal abuse in relation to Stout's severe acne.

In her first professional game, she put a free kick in top bins. Good on her.
