Agreed. A nice John Inman skip as he approached the ball, and a pee-roller against Almunia's legs after the keeper had himself slipped.

readingbedding All English teams are through.
Great boost for English football. 7 English players out of 44

Managed by a Dutchman, Frog, Jock and a Spanish waiter, owned by debt ridden Americans and a Russian crook.

It's time to crack open a bottle of Brown Ale, stuff our faces with Pork pies and sing Jerusalum at the top of our voices.

HHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH For our brave English chaps in Europe.

Not quite how I'd have put it myself but I do agree with the sentiment behind the post.

Didn't say it was a great boost for English football.
But they all play in the top flight, all English teams are through.
Like it, or lump it.

I'll lump it then.

Just can't get excited by the competition.

It just means more money to the Big 4 which they use to further increase their dominance over the rest of England - and also over Europe, as we're seeing more and more.

Not particularly entertaining unless you happen to support one of those 4 clubs, and UEFA and most of the other European clubs are getting as pissed off about the financial inequalities as English clubs have been for years.

Should there be no financial reward for CL progress then? Even shifting some money to the UEFA Cup isn't going to make much difference to the financial strength of teams. Is a few million in Spurs'/Villa's pocket really going to change anything?

That song United sing over the tannoy before games really is laughable for a club whose fans consider themselves the real deal.

Take me home
sing along know
Country Road
you know the words
To the place
wave your merchandise
I belong
buy the ringtone
To Old Trafford
just the stretford
To see United
now the north stand
Take me home
altogether
Country Road

Total prize money in the CL ~ £600 million
Total prize money in the UEFA cup ~ £35 million
(data found here)

Perhaps a more equitable splitting of this might make things better?

Further to that, teams in the CL get an amount for merely being in the group stages, and it is based on their 'size'. So, an example being when Liverpool lost the final to AC Milan. They got more prestige money for being Liverpool in the CL than they did in results-based prize money for reaching the final. What also doesn't help is that less established clubs get into the CL and get a chunk of money that means they dominate their home leagues but, due to the prestige money, they can't ever match the bigger teams.

Yes, the more successful clubs should get more money but if £50-100 million went over to the UEFA cup and you got rid of the stupid prestige money, the system would be a lot fairer. IMO. I'd base the prize money solely on the results, for a start.

Of course there should be rewards - but while most European teams are heavily regulated and not allowed debt you can understand their resentment when they see the success of clubs who have massive amounts of debt hanging over them.

Schards#2 I can no longer take the piss out of Fergie losing the plot.
United are finished, well that backfired when I posted that didn't it.
Ronaldo a one trick pony? He's not maybe he'll leave, oh no, still at United.
They may with the lot, Bollocks.
Haha they spent £18m on Carrick, f*ck, he's also actuall quite good.
33 years since City won a trophy, I need some ammo to hit on United.
Maybe I can knock the OT atmospheare. F*ck, that was top last night.
What can I use to slag United off, I'm running out of ideas here. I know, I'll laugh at that song they play 10 minutes before kick off. The song played before most United fans are even in the ground and that they also think is w*nk. That'll upset those rags!!

You couldn't make it up our Kes! His other club are also a MASSIVE laughing stock. Despite claiming to be the pride of MANCHESTER they get around 20k for mid week Euro games but when they get a full house about United they sing we are not we're not really here. Lets not even go into Kaka!
