MiniRoyal
papereyes In the one game against 'top' opposition, Young went a bit AWOL. I think Capello watched Chelsea - Villa as well.

There's also the whole 'cutting inside' thing, which may stand against him.

Works for that portugese bloke at united.

But he doesn't play for the England team managed by Capello, does he?

I can understand wanting a bit more balance by introducing a left footer on that side of the pitch but considering his left footed options appear to be restricted to Downing and possibly Barry and then the right footed Joe Cole, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard I can't see that as a good reason for not having Young in the squad.

Effectively Capello had at least three right wingers in his squad, Walcot, SWP and Beckham but no real left winger and he ignored probably the most dangerour left sided player in the Premiership of the last 12 months. Maybe he doesn't fancy him, but I can't believe he's made that judgement already after seeing so little of him in and around the squad or on the pitch for England.

The midfield should be, at the moment, one of Lampard and Gerrard alongside Barry with Hargreaves and Carrick waiting in the wings to replace him. The more defensive midfielder may not be necessary against the lesser teams, but if you don't build the team pattern against the weaker teams you can't expect it to work against the good ones!

I would have thought that this was obvious.

Seems that it isn't.

Blindingly obvious to me as well. I can only assume it's something to do with picking a team based on the size of wages.

I was just suggesting why he wasn't picked.

I haven't seen enough of him to be honest although there is a beauty to Villa's tactics. Barry --> Young --> Carew's head.

Repeat until goal or set piece, where Young --> Laursen's head.
