Archie's penalty They're talking about Coppell being England manager on the radio!

bobbybottlerandrew1957The Prisoner The worst thing about today is that I don't feel anything.
After previous eliminations I have been gutted, but today I had exactly the same empty/switched off feeling as I did walking away from Wembley after the Croatia game in 2007 - we got what we deserved: sweet FA.
Time was there was a feeling of injustice about going out. We would play well and lose on penalties. Today we were just dump. Forget the Lampard "goal" - it wouldn't have changed much. Schoolboy defending, a complete lack of cutting edge (Rooney not on form - one striker carries us normally), no passion and resorting to Heskey when 4-1 down rendered the blind Uruguayan's error irrelevant.
I am in my late 30s now and watching England used to be exciting and full of hope. Now my expectations are zero on the back of spineless two dimensional nomarks and corporate hype (please take that embarrassing Carlsberg ad off now).
Fans need to relate to what happens on the pitch. Nobody likes to lose, but we can all accept it if we try hard and make an effort. I suspect that very few fans are angry about going out tonight - they will be more confused about a new disaffected feeling of having spent time and money to watch something they don't understand and cannot relate to.

It feels really strange but I am just finding it hard to feel bothered. I think it is a disgrace that we do not have an English manager and Capello's tactics were little short of an embarrassment. No wonder Terry felt he had to go public! If Harry Rednapp had been manager or Hodgson at least we might have played with some pride.
Today was nothing short of a disgrace.
I am still baffled as to why people think it's disgrace that the manager isn't English - surely one would want the best person for the job?

Love it to happen, but given the digusting press in this country it never will.

Royal Lady As for Fat Frank exchanging shirts and smiling away and chatting with Schweinsteiger I think it was - wtf. Firstly, why would you want a German's shirt as a reminder of possibly one of the shittest performances ever given by England and secondly, how about a bit of humility and thought for the thousands of people who spent a fortune to go and watch that shower of shit.

Stretton Royal I would have thought it must be frustrating when due to language barriers, the manager cannot even express himself properly to the players, despite his track record, which incidentally is not in England with English players.

readingfc13 I'd agree that our wingers aren't in the best of form but then Capello needs to look at a different system if that is the case. Could a midfield diamond with Gerrard the furthest forward been an improvement? It's a simple change but I think it would have better suited the players Capello chose to play.

Is it just my impression or is it that (media apart) just about the only people who get really excited about England's chances are those who don't otherwise really follow football much? The rest of us have become far too cynical for that these days.
