Don't know why everyone seems surprised we're out. A COuntry that has won one World Cup and no European Championship. We always fail at tournaments.

No interest in England any more while Capello is in charge and much of the "golden generation" is still playing. Fed up with being let down by a load of prima donnas and press that keeps telling everybody England are world beaters every time we win a game and then slags them off after every game they don't win.

Archie's penalty They're talking about Coppell being England manager on the radio!

Love it to happen, but given the digusting press in this country it never will.

The Prisoner The worst thing about today is that I don't feel anything.

After previous eliminations I have been gutted, but today I had exactly the same empty/switched off feeling as I did walking away from Wembley after the Croatia game in 2007 - we got what we deserved: sweet FA.

Time was there was a feeling of injustice about going out. We would play well and lose on penalties. Today we were just dump. Forget the Lampard "goal" - it wouldn't have changed much. Schoolboy defending, a complete lack of cutting edge (Rooney not on form - one striker carries us normally), no passion and resorting to Heskey when 4-1 down rendered the blind Uruguayan's error irrelevant.

I am in my late 30s now and watching England used to be exciting and full of hope. Now my expectations are zero on the back of spineless two dimensional nomarks and corporate hype (please take that embarrassing Carlsberg ad off now).

Fans need to relate to what happens on the pitch. Nobody likes to lose, but we can all accept it if we try hard and make an effort. I suspect that very few fans are angry about going out tonight - they will be more confused about a new disaffected feeling of having spent time and money to watch something they don't understand and cannot relate to.

It feels really strange but I am just finding it hard to feel bothered. I think it is a disgrace that we do not have an English manager and Capello's tactics were little short of an embarrassment. No wonder Terry felt he had to go public! If Harry Rednapp had been manager or Hodgson at least we might have played with some pride.

Today was nothing short of a disgrace.

I am still baffled as to why people think it's disgrace that the manager isn't English - surely one would want the best person for the job?

well someone who ( at least can speak a little english ) might say " this is the world cup , the greatest tournement on earth , hundreds of millions are watching , tens of millions are hoping , go out there and show that you are men , go out and wear that shirt with pride etc.. etc.. !!!
instead we get " eerrrr iz eerrr playings go fieldings play i am successings many ago yearings i am knowing best than evers of anyones errr 4-4-2 with no wingings is bestings of place i lovings 5 millions a year for nothings so retiringo in caprio soono !!! "

David Blaine was said to be distraught today as his record of doing f*** all in a box for 42 days has been beaten by Wayne Rooney.

As for Fat Frank exchanging shirts and smiling away and chatting with Schweinsteiger I think it was - wtf. Firstly, why would you want a German's shirt as a reminder of possibly one of the shittest performances ever given by England and secondly, how about a bit of humility and thought for the thousands of people who spent a fortune to go and watch that shower of shit.

Severe flooding is expected in the North of England, as the whole population of Scotland piss themselves laughing.

Stretton Royal I would have thought it must be frustrating when due to language barriers, the manager cannot even express himself properly to the players, despite his track record, which incidentally is not in England with English players.

Roy Hodgson's record isn't in England with English players either but people are still going on about him becoming England manager. The language barrier wasn't a problem in the qualifiers and I think he's better with the language than he makes out to the media so he can avoid difficult questions. Baldini and his other coaches speak good English.

I'll say it again, the way we teach football to kids in this country is so far behind the likes of Brazil, Argentina, France and Spain that it's laughable.

This problem was here before Capello and it will be here long after he's gone if we don't modernise our methods.

readingfc13 I'd agree that our wingers aren't in the best of form but then Capello needs to look at a different system if that is the case. Could a midfield diamond with Gerrard the furthest forward been an improvement? It's a simple change but I think it would have better suited the players Capello chose to play.

I think Joachim Loew identified this issue and exploited it superbly. With England relying on Johnson and Cole to provide width, our back four was very stretched leaving the German team to exploit the gaps between full-backs and central defenders. They probably couldn't believe their luck in the first half at how Terry kept drifting into his more natural position on the left of centre, leaving that yawning gap between himself and Johnson. And of course the midfield was useless at protecting them - is Gareth Barry the most overrated player ever, by the way? Anyway, who knows at 2-2 and with that error fixed at half-time, we might have squeaked through. Somehow I doubt it though, and there's a lot of poison yet to come out about this campaign - clearly there was major unrest in the camp.

Great article about unrealistic expectation from England fans. I do think that some part of the problem is the corporate hype (be it from the FA, sponsors or papers). Lack of talent? Not sure. But pressure can squash talent (I know, we should be able to deal with it, but hard in the face of hysteria).

It was my daughter's 2nd birthday yesterday - we had arranged a party months in advance that clashed with the game. I watched the game on Sky + and ended up forwarding through the last 30 minutes or so. When I wrote a response on the previous page that seemed to strike a note with a few people I had come to the conclusion that I have lost touch with my national team. As soon as JT said he was bored I mentally abdicated and today I am finding that nobody is even talking about the game. If you are bored Mr Terry then so am I.

Is it just my impression or is it that (media apart) just about the only people who get really excited about England's chances are those who don't otherwise really follow football much? The rest of us have become far too cynical for that these days.

I think there are plenty of proper football fans that still get excited at the potential we have and enjoy the short lived hope that comes with supporting your country, but basically I agree with you.

Those non-supporters who come out of the wood work during summer tournaments are generally the ones you hear about the place going on and on about it and spouting a load of rubbish about it.

The rest of us have to put up with it, but thankfully they'll go quiet again in a couple of days and leave the real football to the rest of us to actually enjoy.
