It looks as if Croydon Athletic are on their last legs. Caught up in the Pakistani spot betting allegations. Sadly, their chairman is Mazhar Majeed. He is suspected of laundering some £20 million through the South London club.

Ex Royal Neil Smith is (was) 1st Team Coach there. Sadly there will be 2 or 3 of these every season. This is a real one off, but there are still so many teams trying to buy success even down to Step 4 it beggars belief.

Big Foot Wokingham & Emmbrook manager Wayne oxf*rd resigns so I'm told

Read about this elsewhere too - and I had difficulties posting about Wayne last season - HNA obviously doesn't like his name :P - I think I put W@nklyn - but you then run the risk of the 'at' police chasing you! :?

Odd decision indeed if true - my Newport County supporting mate has dealings with his/his wife's Froz. Food Storage/Delivery company? Trouble is now he's moved out to live in Mortimer I don't see him in the Pub so often - will see if I can track him down.

Wokkers had a very poor result at Peg Jrs last Saturday but was hardly that disasterous - maybe the problems left by Blandy departing to Hungeford ran deeper - or maybe he's given up for non-footballing reasons?

.. fairly neutral statement from Wayne posted on the clubs own website:

Conference North Ilkeston Wound Up for a sum equivalent to about 2 days wages for Ya Ya Toure.

Add to that Croydon Athletic's imminent demise and thats 2 clubs within 3 weeks of the seasons start. and certainly not the last :(

Massively galling that while the likes of Terry and Rooney each earn comfortably enough in a week to keep a struggling side like Ilkeston in business these so-called icons whose ever spiralling wages have such a damaging knock-on effect further down the footballing food-chain have absolutely no self-awareness or self-effacing tendancies as they spend thousands of pounds on prostitutes and getting into brawls outside nightclubs. My contempt for them knows no bounds.

Anyone know if Buster Bloodvessel still has an interest in Margate? IIRC he was Chairman a few years back.

Yellowcoat Binfield are at Step 5 and Margate at Step 3.

... albeit Binfield are a pretty useful STEP05 side and 'Margit' a fairly crap STEP03 one. They flirted around the bottom four all last season as far as I can remember, finishing 4th bottom but got a reprieve probably due to teams above folding/being demoted.
Not that I'm in a position to judge - supporting their nr neighbours the 'Rams' in my adolescence.

So good luck to the 'Moles' and all the other 'local' NL clubs in the next round (1st Qualifying) of the FA Cup this w/e - a few very 'tasty' ties about indeed:-
[For those among us who AREN'T 'committed', like me, to suffer the undoubtedly soulless dross at the MadStad tomorrow PM]

Purely a betting thought, but Margate are 4/5 to beat Binfield, it just seems a big price for a 2 division difference.

Taking the Premiership under its proper name of Division 1, then the Hellenic is effectively Division 9 (M4 Corridor) while the Ryman Premier is Division 7 (South East England)

Talk about the drama and romance of the cup!

A very enjoyable afternoon spent at The Gore to watch Burnham play Colney Heath in the 1st Qualifying Round. Colney had a horror journey getting to Burnham. For the uninitiated, they are located close to St Albans. Why it took the coach driver 2.5 hours to get to Burnham is beyond me. Apparently, the driver left the M25, went on a sight seing tour only to rejoin the motorway at the same junction. Just before I got to the ground, the coach was seen heading away from the ground  Believe me when I say the players and supporters were not happy campers!

A most impressive main stand/conference suite awaits the visitor. Very plush and swish. Sadly, with bar and refreshment prices to match but the Guinness was enjoyable.

Cracking cup tie with Burnham taking a 4th minute lead through the splendidly named Yashwa Romeo. Then, just before half time, Burnham conceded a needless penalty after hesititaion between the central defender and goalkeeper which resulted with a Colney player being pushed over. Clear pen. However, the feisty Ian Cooper had the spot kick splendidly saved by McCarthy in the sticks. Cooper, for some strange reason, walks towards the keeper. Words exchanged and then the keeper shoves Cooper in the chest. Red card and a corner! Romeo, the goalscorer went in goal. The half ended following a blinding save by the replacement keeper in the Burnham goal.

Second half, Colney huffed and puffed but got nowhere. Then, with 15 to go, Humbert went down suspiciously in the area. To me there was no-one near him but the referee in his wisdom pointed to the spoit and Colney duly equalised. Could they get the winner? They pushed forward but Romeo was having none of it. Claiming crosses, blocking shots and then one outstsnding full stretch save. All of a sudden, a quick break with quick interpassing saw the ball fed into the arae and the unmarked Ryan Bird slotted home from 10 yards. It was no more than he deserved as he played the lone striker role brilliantly.

The final whistle went which was a shame as the entertainment was first class. More of the same please!
