who are ya?
paultheroyal Nobody, but nobody should defend Rooney over this.

Camera pitchside or not. He took it on himself to move to the camera, gesticulate to the camera and then shout obscenities at the camera. Sadly as always his brain never clicks in time and just shows what a vile individual this man is. Great footballer, no human brain. Book will be thrown at him.

Absolute cock. I think it's great, fair play to him, if his actions upset you then you are a top cnut.

Wow! Rooney has some competition it seems.

He'd scored three goals in a short space of time to win his side the game - fukking right that he sounded off. If I was a Utd fan in the crowd, I would have been going spastic - Rooney seemed quite restrained by comparison.

sandman Good to see Rooney displaying the class and dignity we've grown to respect him for.

While I don't condone what Rooney did I'm really fed up of everyone expecting footballers to have the tact and diplomacy of the UN Secretary-General.

If you've had a decision go against you that was blatently wrong then look angry and shout a few F-bombs around (We all get annoyed at work). If you've just scored a goal to help you're team out of a sticky situation what is the point?

It's not just Rooney. Simeon Jackson scored a hat trick for Norwich yesterday and from his reaction you'd have thought someone had shot his entire family in front of him. The biggest fcuk you for Rooney yesterday was the goal he didn't need to say anything but let the goal do the talking.

Matt Mills gets angry on the pitch and people say he's a disgrace and shouldn't be Reading Captain yet Rooney does it and people say "leave him alone, Footballers aren't saints, well done to him etc"

The biggest shock for me here is that people were seriously suggesting Rooney for England captain?

That's like asking someone with Parkinsons to be a brain surgeon.

I don't think that's right Ian. Someone with Parkinsons would probably struggle to be any kind of surgeon, let alone a brain surgeon, whereas Rooney is one of the best eleven footballers in the country, so has at least made the cut for being considered to be captain.

The intellectual argument used against Rooney << Rooney's actual intellect.

My apologies for the inappropriate analogy Baines... I hope that the sentiment came across clearly and that you don't think the analogy invalidated it.

But the same people who said that about Matt Mills are the same who are sticking up for Rooney.

I've completely changed my mind in the last couple of years and am appauled at the gentrification of football for the sanitised public's pleasure. I don't give a fcuk what Rooney gets paid

I'm looking forward to the day when Delia Smith calls Madejski a Cunt to which SJ shows him her testicles, the return of hooliganism and MOTD/The big match on a Saturday/Sunday with only the FA Cup final and the odd European game televised. In short, I want the 70's back.

This.

Rooney's undoubtedly a cock, but he's passionate and a loose cannon.

Worrying about whether he will ever win England a major tournament >>>>>>>>> worrying that a young chav Scouser, rich since he was a teenager, with a wife who lets him sleep with hookers, happens to swear a bit.

As I think a few of the press reports have said, his general attitude and demeanour over the last year or so are that of a troubled soul.

His form has been patchy to say the least and although he's always been a passionate and sometimes angry player he does look to be sinking deeper into what looks from the outside as angry depression. I think that might be why he's struggled on the pitch to recapture his best form.

Fergie loves to build up this us against the world atmosphere at United but I do wonder if Rooney is taking things a little bit too far and it's becoming a negative along with everything else that's happened around him in the last few years.

I worry about his long term future these days.

As for him being England Captain. I can still see him being one of those next in line for the role because he's still our most outstanding player, and a passionate one at that, if, and that's a big IF, he can stay on track.

To me it is taking your kids to a match and expecting everyone around you not to swear - it ain't gonna happen. Rooney had just scored to put Man Utd in front from being two goals down, so emotions were running high.

Yes he needs to be told not to do it, which the powers at Man Utd obviously have, hence the apology but it doesn't need to go any further.

I could just about accept it if he was shouting "Fcuking get in there, fcuk yeah!!!!!" with joy on his face, but he wasn't - he was snarling a message of hatred / abuse at someone, something. That cannot be allowed to go unpunished because it really does set a terrible example.

I agree there is a difference, but not sure where you can draw a line to define and consistently punish such offences.

I think Fergie and the powers that be at United need to address the issues causing Rooneys outburst and his up and down form this season. I think that's a bigger worry really.

I still wouldn't be surprised to see Rooney leave in the summer.

He's probably still a bit unhappy & frustrated at having to play for a club that he publicly stated he no longer wants to be at.

In his mind he has bigger fish to fry than utd

His best days are behind him and he is inexorably heading towards Gascoigne territory. Expect the injuries and absences to start getting more frequent now.

It'll be interesting to see whether Fergie gives him one more year or cashes in this summer. He would probably still command a £45m fee and Man Utd could do plenty with that I'm sure.
