Yep, remember this vividly on WOS as a 9 year old. It's still  at just how quickly it takes hold.

Put's our EP Port Vale (?) cigar episode to shame.

T.R.O.L.I. Less high profile game I guess - and perhaps the Bradford victims' families accept the reasons behind the fire.

Although I'm expecting the predictable drivel from the resident anti-Scouse brigade

There's someone tangible to blame for Hillsborough (in the opinion of the families anyway). Somebody to take it out on (be it The Sun, The Rozzers, whoever)

A load of flammable sh1te under a wooden structure was a given back then (see Kings X underground station fire).

Like I said in my original post, at least some lessons were learned....and yes it must be hard for the under 30s to appreciate just what a low most of the 80s were for English football. Violence in grounds, fences, falling attendances etc against a backdrop of Thatcherism and riots in society made the 80s a strange combo of extravagance and yuppies tempered by some dark days and stupid haircuts. Only changed with Italia 90 (Love's got the World in Motion) when footy became cool again.....

TBM We always hear about the lives lost at Hillsborough but never of the Bradford fire......why is that.

Probably because there was closure after Bradford. A full inquiry and no cover-up.

Hillsborough is still a gaping would thanks to the flawed inquiry and police cover up. The current review of files by a new team, overseen by the Bishop of Liverpool, might finally see an end to it.

Resurrecting this thread up rather than creating a new one, on Monday it was agreed that the Cabinet papers related to Hillsborough would be released in their entirety.

This below article by David Conn on the subject is an interesting read : http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/oct/17/hillsborough-disaster-legacy-lies

Also, a new petition has been created on the Government's e-petition site - it was the number of signatures on a previous petition which ensured that a Commons debate was held on Monday. This is an interesting one, calling for

Petition to force the Sun newspaper to release its Hillsborough "The Truth" sources and documents

Responsible department: Department for Culture, Media and Sport

Full disclosure by the Sun Newspaper to the Hillsborough independent panel of all it's records, including sources and documents relating to the 'The Truth' story published on 19/04/1989

Do people really expect that these things were done 'on the record'? Doubt whether any of alleged contraversial breifings given by the government to the press would have been done officially.

Your feelings might be different if you had friends or family killed at Hillsborough, who were then subsequently blamed for their own deaths.

The speculation is that the cabinet papers contain the record of how the government would respond publicly and what the "story" would be. In particular it's also believed that teh suggestion that supporters were drunk was added by Bernard Ingham.
