Why?

Or is it the "cool" thing to support Ireland like most people on here*, due to Doyle, Long, Hunt etc playing for them?

*even though they'll try and claim they are part Irish by some relative.

Terry in for a bit of experience at the back I'd imagine

I hate John Terry, but the Liverpool game aside, he's been quality recently.

This.

And BBC this morning saying it's Carroll, not Zamora, who has made the squad.

Zamora would be a oxf*rd shambles of a decision.

I'm really oxf*rd off about this rumoured England squad. Nothing has changed with the new management, still the same old shit we were peddling before.

Why the oxf*rd is Gerrard favourite to be captain? He should be lucky to get on the bench, let alone be the first name on the starting team-sheet. It's ridiculous. What has he done this season? I don't like Lampard very much but he has been miles better this year. Is yet another England manager going to try and fail to play the two in the same team? Or will Lampard sit on the bench for no good reason while a past-it Gerrard lumps long balls for Danny Welbeck to do nothing with?

Micah Richards not going is a bad decision. Glen Johnson was great last year, but this season he has been largely anonymous in a rubbish Liverpool team. Crouch should have been taken as a back-up option, and if Zamora or Bent end up going instead it will be a kick in the teeth for a player who performed consistently at international level and bagged 14 goals for a very mediocre Stoke team this season.

I will be very pleasantly surprised if we make it out of the group stage.

I can understand the Terry decision, just (if of course the hacks have it right that is).

As I said the other day, his form since AVB got the sack has been pretty good, although it certainly tailed off over the week or so with the daft red card and then getting shown up by Carroll. However, not only has be generally played pretty well but he's also got the experience to organise a defence under pressure at the very top.

As much as I'd like to see an England squad without him, I still believe you need a bit of experience and an organiser within a back four and it's a better learning experience for the young players to have someone like that alongside them than just throwing them all in together.

Rio vs Terry though? Rio's also shown some good form during the run in, perhaps a bit more conistently than Terry but, and it's a big but, his fitness concerns must have played a part. You can't chop and change and take [too many] players who are just not fit or able to stand up to the demands of tournament football. England have done it in the past and got found out.

It's a real shame if Kyle Walker is going to miss out with his foot injury too. I'd have it as close between him and Richards at right back but it seems as though Richards is also set to be snubbed by Hodgson. He might have the odd lapse in concentration but I still think he's better than Johnson or Jones at right back so I'm a bit miffed if he's not going to be in the squad.

this is the sort of thing good pundits should be picking up on - apparently Cappello and Hodgson both feel that his positioning isn't good enough. would seem Mancini agrees as their defence is tighter without him in it. bombing forward in attack doesn't make you a good RB

He [Richards] was very good earlier in the season, when Mancini picked him every week and even played him at centre half a bit. Although he's decent going forward he also defended really well and seemed to me to be picking his moments to attack a bit better (obviously I'm not watching him as much as those that matter though).

I thought he only lost his place during the run in following his injury. The way I saw it was Zabaleta played well whilst Richards was out and kept the position when Richards came back for the last 2 or 3 games (or a few more perhaps, not sure). There seems to have been a lot of comment about how Mancini didn't trust him, but he played most of the time when he was fit, so I'm not sure where that's come from.

Johnson and Jones have been caught out a lot more when defending from what I've seen of both when playing right back.

Avon Royal LOL at giving a damn about England.

^ all day this.

Woy could pick an entirely new squad, use the same old guys, mix it up between both. Same outcome, a series of very poor performances and perhaps a quater final. Nothing to get excited or wound up about at all.

I dont think Mancini thought that at all. Richards got injured and Zabaleta has played out of his skin and been undropable.

Richards > me > Johnson

Yeahh, LOL at supporting your country.

:|

Anyway, it's all very well having a whine about Terry's inclusion, but are there 4 better English centre backs around at the moment? Probably not.

Lets all give Roy a couple of games before getting suicidal. This place is worse than fcuking Fleet Street.

Would Grant Holt be worth a stab? I'd rather him than Bent or Carroll.

Glad Carroll is in (judging by the rumours).......the past few weeks he's been superb and caused John Terry a shit load of problems in the FA Cup and League game. Bring him on when we're 2 down against France, play the long ball with the likes of Walcott playing off of his flicks and we'll be like Wimbledon of International football
