Oh, and what AP said - Ireland have given donkeys hundreds of caps. There is no way someone like Stephen Hunt would get anywhere near 30 caps for England if he was English. The fact remains that England, 98% of the time, select their players on merit when they are either in the form of their lives - see James Beattie around the time of his caps - or actually showing consistent potential to become a regular first teamer at a young age - extreme case Wayne Rooney. Most of these deserve their chance, and are actually very good top level club players, and still go on to produce the goods at club level after their initial cap - see Darren Bent. Occasionally you get a bad egg - see Michael Ricketts - but even he was selected on the back of some magnificent form for Bolton after scoring 24 Division 1 goals to help get them promoted, and then by scoring 15 times by February in the Premier League. I think it's harsh to call players who were selected on merit donkeys. It's pretty clear to me that Gus has an inferiority complex as Ireland obviously have a much smaller pool of players to call upon, hence why they select more donkeys than England. IN a nutshell, England can pick and choose, Ireland can't.
