As Graham Taylor said on the radio last night, "a manager needs 3 seasons before they have the squad they want and the style of football they want to play - if they dont manage it in that time, its fair enough to sack them"

12 games is NOT 3 seasons!

Baines McLaren's performance at FC Twente doesn't mean that his performance at Boro, with the players and money at his disposal, was any better than par.

Whilst at boro he won a League Cup and reached a UEFA Cup final. That's way way ahead of par for the money spent and players that he had available.

Given some of the players he bought, I struggle to believe that.

Whilst I agree that every manager deserves his fair share of time to get results, I can't help but notice a huge downside to your point... the fact that you're quoting Graham Taylor. :|

It's still a good point, at the very least a manager should have 2 transfer windows to sort it out.

Other than the England job*, he's never been sacked from a position - resigned from Villa in '03, resigned from Wolves in the mid-90s.

*and didn't he resign there?

What he did at Lincoln, Watford and Villa makes him a pretty decent manager imo.

Generall I'd agree with that slightly amended sentence.

There are always a small minority of exceptions to rules like this.

A manager has to show some potential there to improve with. If it was the players that seemed to be mostly the problem I'd agree, but in cases where it appears to be largely the management and there is nothing there to suggest an improvement is possible, you just have to get rid early as damage limitation.
