SpaceCruiser I think it's good that Beckham won't be keeping anyone like Wright-phillips out of the world cup. He's over-rated, has only one good foot and that's about it.

I don't think Wright-Phillips is over-rated.

Everyone knows he ain't that good.

Seriously Spacey, do you ever look over what you've typed beefore hitting submit? Or do you actually believe everything Ian Wright tells you?

I would pick Young over Wright-Phillips any day.......SWP is a pile of shit that doesn't even do much for his club, let alone his country

The only reason to have SWP in the team is for comedy photos of him and ladders

Wright-Phillips did well against Egypt but he has not performed when he has been given the chance for England. Both Walcott and Lennon are better options and are simillar types of player. Beckham offered an alternative a change of pace and a better delivery than the three players mentioned.

If England take Defoe, then they may as well give up at the QF stage. The very definition of flat track bully.

SWP did do well agaisnt Egypt but has gone missing far too many times in previous games to be considered. He's like for like with Lennon, but not as good.

Would rather another player who could play as an out and out left winger went instead of Becks. Cole, Downing or Johnson. I would imagine this injury will have saved Cole's summer.

If I was Cappello I'd have Beckham around the camp regardless. Wouldn't be surprised if he was in SA.

I disagree that Walcott is a better option, he was shit against Egypt. However, if he was to return to anything like the form he showed against Croatia...

Walcott has pace, LOTS of pace.........if you're a full back having played 75 minutes of football, the last thing you'd want to come up against is the pace of a fresh legged sub in the form of Walcott

He hasn't had the same amount of games to prove himself as SWP. He's also been injured a lot this season so hasn't been able to have a consistant run of games for club or country. If Walcott gets a run of games between now and the end of the season then IMO he is a better option than SWP.

I dunno - another attacking midfielder might be an idea. Maybe play Defoe in the group games to rest Rooney?

But Defoe really isn't going to trouble the best teams IMO.

Better option than Heskey to be honest mate. Why have you included him in your squad? Because "Rooney likes playing with him"?

The bloke has scored something like six goals in sixty internationals. For a centre-forward of any standard, that is truly awful.

Did well against Holland when he came on though........i agree that he's rather hit or miss though, when on form he's unstoppable.

Defoe's got 10 odd in about 6 seasons of England internationals. It's defiantly mediocre.

I had a look at his one-time rival Vassell got 6 in 22, Defoe has 11 in 39 (pretty much the same rate :| ), Heskey has 7 in 57.

Defoe - a tiny bit better than Darius Vassell.

I don't think its hit or miss - I think its a big factor of the defenders and the strike partner. He's not big enough and there's not enough mistakes at the top level for him to poach off.

But the next player down 1 from is Agbonlahor, Cole or Zamora, really. And I wouldn't think they're good enough at all.

Defoe - 11 in 39
Cole - 0 in 7
Heskey - 7 in 57
Agbonlahor - 0 in 3
Crouch - 20 in 37
Rooney - 25 in 58

There's not much option tbh.......
