Smoking Kills Dancing Doe ANy player coming out with have a harder time off players than fans.

Footballers are about as homophobic as you can get.

Not that surprising thought is it? They're mainly working class men of 18-35 with a lower than average education and probably not the most enlightened approach to life.

I think the only part of society (and I mean that age/background grouping) which would be more homophobic are the 60+ and religious nuts.

I don't get why footballers should be any different than their peers in any other walk of life where racism and homophobia are pretty prevalent.

Really? I've met a fair few and never asked. Do you have some sort of questionnaire they have to fill in when you meet them?

Where does the situation stand with bisexual ladies? My only experience of one was that she hadn't tried it.

Done. I don't think the burden should lie on an individual's shoulders to come out, when the abuse would be horrendous. But frankly the PFA and football community generally has been absolutely PATHETIC in showing any solidarity with the presumably numerous gay footballers. It is sad isn't it that there are people out there having to actively hide their lifestyles because there so many pcunts who this world that think it okay to throw abuse at them :x

There are plently of nobbers who need look no further than themselves for this BTW.

people will get teased if they are gay, or fat, or short, or very tall, or ginger, or whatever your particular difference happens to be.
think people should grow a pair and deal with it, as long as its not nasty, or violent.

Dis'greed.

Can you really see The Sun printing "<insert footballer here (arf arf)> takes it up the arse" on the back pages?

Or going in hard from behind in training.

Difference between teasing and the sort of nasty abuse gay players would certainly get.

no, i hate racism.

but when seen (rarely)at football it is/was pretty nasty

if it were just their colour, id probably say yes though, its not actually worse at all- its the baggage of centurys of slavery murder and exploitation that makes it worse than chanting at a tubby/ginger player.

i believe there is a difference between teasing, and violently assaulting people cos they are gay

i myself am fat, bald, slightly ginger, freckled, bespectacled, 1/4 welsh, and ugly etc
i fail to see why there is a massive difference between teasing due to any of those physical qualitys and blackness/gayness, other than those listed above.

kitson was right.

Question 1 - depends on if the player has the emotional and mental strength to deal with it so Yes and No

Question 2 - depends on the attitudes of the individual fan/player/coach

At that point I gave up.

A potentially interesting academic study spoiled by letting an idiot phrase the questions.

When Gareth Thomas came out, most of the Rugby community reacted with "So what?"

If an international footballer came out, expect terrace chants aplenty, a la Sol. Hence the segregation.....much as I love football, the small-minded mentality of some fans give it a bad name. And it ain't gonna change anytime soon.

But rugby was a game devised purely so that public schoolboys could sniff each others' bottoms. Latent homosexuality is integral to the game. That's why League broke away. No rucking and mauling and very few scrums. Nothing to do with money.
