No obvious howlers, but you'd expect a world class keeper to get part of his frame in the way of one or two of goals 1, 2 or 4.

Maybe I've lost count. Which was the one where it was poked right at him and he moved out the way?

3. Yep that was poked at him with no power on it as the defense in front did all they could to block it and not allow a free shot from 10 yards.

Again though, James has to give himself the best chance of saving this shot, with that sort of angle and position on the field, I'd say 7 or 8/10 the striker goes across you, so your first instinct thought is to go to your right, which James did. The ball was then absolutely creamed to the other side and there was no way he could readjust. It's one of those chances where if James waits for the bloke to strike that before he tries to ave it, it's passed him in a flash. He has to almost gamble he goes to his right.

There is no way that goal was his fault either.

What about the one-on-ones he did stop? Where do they figure in your reckoning?

people have to stop their bullshit yet James was at fault for all goals and the 3rd goal was poked right at him.

Who said he was "at fault" for all the goals. Your justification of the third goal is lame. From that position just get as much of yourself in the way as you can. He flinched out of the path of the ball. And what's so LOL-worthy about #2? It's gone through his legs. I'm not saying he's "at fault" for any of them, but world class keepers make special things happen in case just like those.

Row Z Royal PLEASE don't clamour for the sacking of Capello. We had a great qualifying campaign and we've had a dip in form. Now we need continuity, to build for 2012.

Sorry, but Capello has shown himself to be clueless in thsi cup campaign....starting with the selection

He said he'd only pick players on form, and players who were fit...... but bottled it at the last minute and took out-of-form and injured "bigger name" players. I lost all respect for him right then

Same sh*t different name

People are a sucker for Capello's record as a club manager, but look closer at it because apart from 1 European Cup/Champions League win with Milan back in the early 90s it sucks when it comes to knock out competition.

I don't care about his club record, but I am a sucker for his record with us through qualifying.

I'm also a sucker for a project and a dip in form (albeit at the worst time) is not a good reason, in my book, to pack him on his way. With another qualifying campaign just around the corner, we need to keep the continuity of Capello and let him phase out those who aren't going to be around in 2012 and bring new blood through.

A new bloke is just going to stick with Lampard, Terry, Gerrard ad infinitum because he's too scared to drop 'em. I hate knee-jerk reactions - give the bloke some time.

I thought the save James made in the opening 5 minutes was pretty sharp.

england, as i suspected (especially when schweinsteiger was declared fit), were completely outclassed

disgraceful decision not to award the goal though, but in a way I'm delighted coz that fat swiss c**t has major egg on his face now, Ireland are a small football federation and our misfortune wasn't enough to convince Blatter to introduce technology so these travesties don't happen but hopefully England will have the power to force his slimy hand to do the right thing

however, the english can't complain too much as the Germans were miles better than them and thoroughly deserve to go through...I knew that when people were actually positive and hopeful after the Slovenian game, and actually talking up a seriously average performance that England were in serious trouble, if you can't recognise when you play badly then you can't fix it. England played as they have throughout the tournament and lost 4-1, it could have been 8. Suddenly the players are overpaid and Capello can't speak English properlywhereas, when they played to the same level of performance against Slovenia they were lionhearts and Capello was a master tactician, a funny old game eh.

For my two pennies worth - we were pretty cack in all 4 games. I said it at the beginning of the tournament and I'll say it again now, we should look to play players from the Championship - they are far more likely to play with pride and passion for their country. For people like Rooney and Lampard et al, it's just a given that they'll play for England - but to a man they haven't performed anywhere near their best abilities. It might be because they don't like Capello's tactics or where they're asked to play, but in the grand scheme of things it's tough shit if they don't like it. He's the boss and while he is the boss they should be doing what he says.

The exception in this tournament has been David James tbf. As someone else pointed out, if Capello had played him in the first game, we could have avoided Germany probably and might still have had a fighting chance in this competition. I thought France were bad, but really, we're no better.

And Sepp Blatter can do one. If EVERYONE appears to be asking for this technology, why should he decree that FIFA aren't going to use it? And I wish they'd stick that ruddy new football up his @rse also - that definitely has had a bad effect on every game in this tournament. Except for Germany of course who played with it all last season in their domestic league.

They have a deal for Adidas to provide the ball for their leagues, so of course they would

If Nike released the ball, the Premiership would have played with the ball under their deal

Geez

I know that. It all comes down to money yet again and the Premier League obviously going with a match ball provider who paid the most money.

If FIFA were going to introduce a new ball for the World Cup, they should have told all countries they should play with it for a year. IMO.

I do agree about the ball. All qualifying countries should have been using it from the start of this year once all qualifiers were known. Not rocket science really.
