ZacNaloen Qatar though... wtf... do FIFA even listen to their inspectors?

Terrible news for anyone who likes drinking or ganmling alongside their football.

But even worse news for any women planning to attend.

southbank1871 Be interesting to see if Soggy can keep this up to be honest, or if he'll at some point concede that Qatar getting a world cup is more than slightly comical

Not claiming it is a typical venue but I have always been a fan of having it in a new place (except for my selfish side wanting it in England in 2018). There will certainly have to be some thinking involved with regards to fan parks etc but with the stadiums being air conned and the amount of money in Qatar the sky is the limit with regards to imaginative ideas.

I was planning to fly across the pond to watch 2018 back home. Rio in 2014 is now a definite for me. Chicago to Rio in 11 hours is as quick as it is going to get until 2026, by which time I will undoubtedly be eating through a straw and having a bag regularly emptied.

"imaginative ideas"? It's a world cup, not a circus. It's not made by all the off pitch horse play.

And have you addressed the point about the culture clash between your typical football fan and the way of life in the gulf?

Who are you kidding? Not the way we drink over in Europe it isn't - or are you expecting footie fans to limit themselves to one or two at the hotel bar then slip off quietly to bed?

Wiki Under Qatar's Sharia, it is illegal to show alcohol or be drunk in public.

Qatar will "relax" their drinking laws. Only the dick lopped off then.

Isn't Russia pretty much the most racist country in the world?

As previously stated, the entire process is completely bent and whichever bid is prepared to be the most bent will win.

Step up Russia & Qatar

ZacNaloen coming 4th is hard to take though, our media obviously impacted that. We weren't the worst bid.

I know that it sounds nonsensical, but I don't believe that there's an inherent correlation between order of elimination and the comparative quality of bids

It's got more to do with the structure of the balloting, or so they told us when we were first ones dumped in the 2016 Summer Olympics balloting (to the sheer sweet relief of a city)

Makes you wonder why they have them in the first place then really.

LOL. How much do we hear on the news about the problems in Britain with drunks etc yet as soon as someone wants us to not get drunk in public we are upset!

There are designated drinking areas already and they have said they will also relax the laws further.
