Whereas Lampard hasn't played a decent game for England since 2005.

Oh no, it's happening again...

He scores goals but it's his mate Pen who gets all the assists. Why isn't he in the squad?

Me too. All he's good for is bumbling his way through the defence and scoring from a free attacking role. This is why you can't play them both. They do the same role, Gerrard is a better player, but more versatile so ends up being the one who has to carry the water and is wasted.

I really thought I'd seen the end of Gerrard/Lampard debates. Yet 6 years on from 2006, we are still seeing these lame idiots in the England team.

Neither are central midfielders, which is why they have never worked in our stubborn 4-4-2. They don’t have the all-round game people make out. Without at least TWO other midfielders covering for them, you don’t see them shine.

Please Hodge, learn from past mistakes. Lampard is a dick in a CM position and Gerrard is a tool anywhere near the back four or in a wide position. Stick em behind the striker, unless that striker is Rooney in which case you may as well have em play handcuffed together for all the space they are going to give each other.

Personally, I’d leave both the chokers home.

Parker, Barry, Britton, Carrick, Murphy, Milner, Cleverly, anybody but those two. They just don’t play well for England and I’d rather risk trying somebody new than go through another cup watching them pass the ball out for a throw in, waste a good bit of build up by smashing it into the stands, cluelessly pass the ball back into the path of a striker, take a free kick into the wall and miss penalties.

Extended-Phenotype Parker, Barry, Britton, Carrick, Murphy, Milner, Cleverly

Parker and Barry are already in

Britton is not international material

Carrick doesn't want to play

Murphy is too old

Milner is better out wide

Cleverly i would give you, but he's not really shone in the Premiership yet (injured i know)

Carrick only doesn't want to play because he would be on the bench behind Peahead and Fatso.

As one of the standout midfielders of last season, Murphy's age is irelevant.

Milner is far tidier with the ball than either Gerrard or Lampard.

And Britton completed more passes this season than Xavi.

Don't think any of those guys could be any worse than our aging poster boys.

Exactly, there really isn't too much of an alternative at the moment. The talent in their early/mid 20's who might've been the ones to replace them haven't really come on yet for various reasons (players like Gosling, Cattermole, Huddlestone, Bostock even, Delph, Michael Johnson, Muamba etc etc). One of those reasons might be that they haven't been given their chances enough at both club and international level.

We do seem to have been hit by more injuries this time around. Those that might've been knocking on the door, like Cleverly, Rodwell, Huddlestone and of course Wilshire are all ruled out through injuries.

They're not alternatives to Lampard/Gerrard though are they?

Alternatives to Barry and Parker perhaps, but none of those players are the ones to break from midfield and provide goals or to play off the forward in a 5 man midfield. Without Rooney that's what we need, and that's why they're both in the squad.
