That news about John Utaka getting paid £80k a week is truly astonishing; it would mean with a signing on fee and various bonus payments that he will set Pompey back £20M for his 4 Year contract - a truly staggering amount of money for a club with a maximum capacity of less than 20,000.
I guess the only question to be asked is, when will Pompey finally go? I would imagine that the only thread they are barely clinging onto is Premiership survival - when that goes, they will be totally stuffed. Even the £11M parachute payment will barely cover their current outstanding football debts. The hope of survival means that, despite it being the only immediate and obvious short term solution, they will fight tooth and nail to avoid going into administration and taking the 9 point penalty as a result.
It will beinteresting to know if the PL has a similar rule that states that after a certain period of time into a season, a team going into administration will have the points deduction carried forward into the next season if they would have been relegated without that points deduction in thr current season...
