I'd guess it's actually being held back for the next time Pompey fail to pay their players. PL won't give a toss about Watford. They aren't PL and nor are they a big foreign club.

The PL will care massively about one of their clubs not paying its debts to another football club at whatever level they are. Scuadamore recognises his league's obligations to the whole football pyramid.

That news about John Utaka getting paid £80k a week is truly astonishing; it would mean with a signing on fee and various bonus payments that he will set Pompey back £20M for his 4 Year contract - a truly staggering amount of money for a club with a maximum capacity of less than 20,000.

I guess the only question to be asked is, when will Pompey finally go? I would imagine that the only thread they are barely clinging onto is Premiership survival - when that goes, they will be totally stuffed. Even the £11M parachute payment will barely cover their current outstanding football debts. The hope of survival means that, despite it being the only immediate and obvious short term solution, they will fight tooth and nail to avoid going into administration and taking the 9 point penalty as a result.

It will beinteresting to know if the PL has a similar rule that states that after a certain period of time into a season, a team going into administration will have the points deduction carried forward into the next season if they would have been relegated without that points deduction in thr current season...

All the press said James was on 80k - 100k and it turned out Stoke refused to pay more the £20k a week to cover half his £40k a week salary.

Also the fans marched a petition to Fratton Park and when Peter Storrie came to received it, he got asked who he was going to hand it to. Peter Storrie said he didn't know as he's not sure who the owner is.

could it not be a similar story to that of Sol Campbell where by he's on half that but the other half is image rights? Campbell didn't get his image rights and is now suing.

Just had a Pompey fan on supporting the move saying we shouldn't blame the sins of the father on the son and that it would be a good development...he sounded like a drowning man clinging to a piece of wreckage!!

Portsmouth now claiming their transfer embargo is now lifted- so they can now buy players. Obviously clubs will be more than willing to do credit deals with them.
