What a performance from Bale and Spurs. They have made the CL worth watching. Bale reminded me of Gilkesy  except the final delivery did not end up in the Tilehurst End.

Why did frimmers seem so confident that Spurs would fail last night?

Crash OR Burn? No positive result in sight?

have another try. this is what i wrote with regard to both competitions, and expanded upon later.

"pales with regard to the ryder cup..not even third in my book..the world cup is like the f.a cup...no one really gives a toss about it now..time was when england came to a standstill to watch the unfolding events at wembley...no longer."

if you are going to trip up frimmers, you will need to do a lot better...

Maguire

Maguire 25 minutes in and I have never seen Maicon get rinsed so often.

The Italians watching this must be thinking "who the fck is Gareth Bale, where is Wales, and why have we never heard of him before the other week?"

Yes, those thick Italians that voted John Charles their best ever import.

Also not sure how all those Italians have ended up in Wales over the years either.

Twit.

I was praising Bale and remarking that his relatively low profile pre-tournament will have caught the likes of Inter entirely by surprise.

Sadly I'd forgotten that people from the principalities were so insecure.

Dare me? You really are an infant aren't you? anyway here goes

@11.57 frimmers3 and of what worth is the "world cup" now?

@13.30 frimmers3 since when? now you can see every participant day in day out on sky what import does the world cup have?

then @ 13.32 frimmers3 eventually the world cup is like the f.a cup...no one really gives a toss about it now..time was when england came to a standstill to watch the unfolding events at wembley...no longer.

@ 13.34 the goalposts found a new home as the original point was dropped and frimmers3 my point stands. the f'a cup is no longer the spectacle it once was.

Now shut up and fvck off

Owning? With respect (and only if you can bear too - I don't think I could actually) you need to have another read I think.

Frimmers started off talking about the World Cup and then included the FA Cup. Then nonsense point-scoring ensued.

Would anyone disagree that they are no longer as important to either footballers or fans as they used to be?

I agree that the WC like the FA Cup before it has lost its lustre.
Certainly for me it has.

Is the CL saturation to blame?
Or is it that England are just so uninspirational.

I certainly would on the world cup, it's one of if not the biggest sporting event in the world.
As for the FA cup, sadly the attitude of most clubs has seen it falter, ironically given where this thread started it is still much more interesting than the group stages of the Champions League.

Probably an arrogant conclusion on my part tbf - but they are for me anyway, and obviously for Frimmers too.

It's probably an age thing. Whippersnappers haven't seen as many as we have, and anyway, as time speeds up they seem to come around every few months now so are nowt special these days. Bit sad really I suppose. For us.

Having said that I do not believe for a moment that representing England in a World Cup gives as much of a rush to today's millionaire footballers as it did 20+++ years ago.
