Ideal
Cobi So BM can coach players to pass out from the back and not lump it forward, so why the fcuk didn't he try that here?

He did, then all his best players got sold. Then some obvious lack of quality in the playing squad lead to the inevitable conclusion that smash and grab was the only way to get enough points to even try to compete in this division. It's obvious, that having an overly ambitious style of play would have lead to us smashing Derby's record low points tally. Simple as that, yet some of you buffoons refuse to accept it. I am sure we would have played better again next season, with some investment and patience.

Hang on, rewriting history is a little rich.

We won the Championship last year followed by losing NONE of our best players.

Even when we had Mills & Long we were playing the ball long (hence Millsgate after a string of the long balls had failed)

Hayden Mullins scores as Birmingham beat Leeds 1-0.

On his 550th appearance as well. Fair play to him!

Given that we have fans already moaning about Nige after 4 games I'm not sure we can use the

That's because there are some retards who wouldn't accept we were relegated 4 weeks ago, and expected an unrealistic and sudden influx of wins. They seem incapable of appreciating the improvements that we've made, or have the patience to understand it takes more than 5 minutes to fix the mess Brian McDermott left us in.

I agree, I'm just pointing out that we're no better than Leeds in that respect

Is this the same McDermott or has the penny dropped

by DOYLERSAROYALER » 26 Apr 2013 15:07

Jason Pearce, Leeds centre back on McDermott...

For the centre-half, many of McDermott’s early brownie points come for his interpretation of style, with the former Portsmouth man’s beliefs concurring with those of his fellow stopper Tom Lees, which were uttered in an interview last week.

"For the vast majority of Whites punters, the former Reading manager’s adherence to passing football and cajoling of his players to believe that possession is nine-tenths of the law, has been a joy to behold.

Where often previously, the ball was somewhat of a hot potato for United’s back four, now a bit more care and attention is suddenly being preached by the man in charge in the dug-out – which Pearce feels is a breath of fresh air."

When you get sacked for playing shit football the temptation is normally there to change your style. Holloway did it after getting sacked by Leicester.

Anyway, nothing to do with us anymore, GF

Ever considered that maybe Jason Pearce is more suited to passing football than Alex Pearce? Or that McD plays to the strengths of the players at his disposal?

To be fair even playing and watching STOKE must feel like playing possession football, when you compare it to their current tactics of trying to break players ankles (Karacan)

I considered that, but I've actually seen both play several times and know that not to be the case.

Jason Pearce doesn't come up against the likes of Van Persie, Suarez, Ba, Benteke etc every week....

Does playing against RVP make it more difficult to pass the ball?

Ultimately if McD wanted us to play passing football we'd have been doing it 3 and a half years into his tenure. He has his own style, it was succesful to a point, and I'm sure he'll get Leeds playing in a similar way. Good luck to him, but let's not pretend like he was a repressed Guardiola when here.

Of course it does

If you don't get the time on the ball then your passing has to be shit hot - plus the players you're passing to have to have space to receive it, the players in the Premiership are better than those in the Championship

You think RVP closes defenders down more than your average Championship striker (eg Noel Hunt)?!

Its not down to a striker closing down more than other. Teams in the PL collectively press and press at the right times.

If McDermott wanted us to pass we would have done it in the championship!

But pitches are better in the Premiership..

Ultimately you're right, if he wanted us to pass the ball we would be doing it. The way the players are talking about Adkins' training sessions it sounds like even simple passing and moving was something they rarely practised with Gibbo.

Player claims new manager is a "breath of fresh air"... shocker.
