AbovetheI With the exception of Gerrard, all the other central midfielders gave the ball away numerous times. Players like Cleverley and Jordan Henderson shouldn't get anywhere near the England team, but sadly they're all England have.

The experience of Lampard was missed tonight, and I'm still undecided with Andros Townsend. Not much of an end product.

This will probably be the first World Cup I've not really been interested in. Anyway. Germany. What a team

Townsend was the only England game who really looked like cre8ing anything.

The list of players that Germany were missing is a joke as well. At least 5 world class players

I genuinely believe we should go back to only allowing 5 foreigners in each PL starting line up even if it produces a weaker PL for a few seasons.

AbovetheI I feel sorry for the person who has to die tonight based on the German performance.

Westermann. Was getting rinsed on the right at points and he's HSV.

That's it with him. Looks like he'll create something, but ends up having his cross blocked.

winchester_royal Ravel Morrison, James Ward-Prowse, Nathaniel Clyne, Tom Ince, and Will Hughes should be the real winners from the last 7 days. Emphasis on Morrison in particular, who is far and away the most technically gifted English player around atm.

I don't care if he's a cnut Roy, just pick him.

I agree, get all the potentially talented young players in now, including Shaw from Saintes etc. Start building FFS we have better youngsters than the shite on show tonight.

What difference will that make though? The players won't get any better, the quality of play will just get worse. There are plenty of average English players getting regular football in the Championship. What we need is a better quality of coaching starting from a very young age with emphasis on footballing awareness rather than the kick and run crap that you see up and down the country.

It's getting better, the younger players coming through are far more technical than the ones coming through 10 years ago, but there's still a long old way to go.

Yeah, Ross Barkley looked technically superior over the older players tonight.

Ian Wright should be involved in the England setup imo.

"I'd like the defence to be more solid and the midfield to create more chances for the strikers."

Nearly as much insight as Lacoste.

Yes, Henderson, Cleverly, Sturrige, Welbeck, Gibbs and Walker look far more technical than the likes of Scholes, Beckham, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Neville, Lampard, Joe C ole, Ashley Cole, Carrick etc who came through far longer than 10 years ago

No Fixed Abode Ian Royal showing he knows nothing again. Getting way too excited about an England performance where they had no shots on target.

Er.. you what?

Cracking come back that Kesmund. You might want to look "excited" up in the dictionary, because it seems you don't know what it means. Are you still RattLOLed from earlier?

Our lot don't look very good these days. German should be disappointed at not getting more than the single goal.

Be fair, they had half their best players missing and not much in the way of strikers playing. And they clearly weren't trying that hard once they scored.

England were missing quality in midfield and I think we all know the player they missed the most...Michael Carrick.

The likes of Scholes and Beckham came through 20 years ago, and obviously if you pick the stars of former generations and compare them to average ones from this one then you can 'prove' your point, but on average there is more emphasis on technique in younger players coming through, but still not enough. We have a massive lack of quality 27/28 year olds, i.e. players who should be coming into their prime around now, and we're paying the price in having to bring players like Barkley in before they're ready. The guy's only had 3 months of regular Premiership football ffs. 10 years ago academies cared more about size than technique, because that's what the Premier League was all about. The influx of foreign players has made the league more technical, forcing the academies to focus more on ability rather than athleticism. It's not a short term fix, but it will eventually lead to more English players playing regularly in the top level.

P.s. Neville...technique? Lol.

Comfortable from the Germans really, classic away performance. They work really hard to close down space and looked more likely to score on the break in the second half.

For England I thought Sturridge was notably poor, Ashley Cole got rinsed a couple of times, and Lallana struggled to get involved.

Townsend has some skill but England just gave him the ball and said "do something" which is hard when Germany doubled up on him all the time. He did work an opening to hit the beans on toast though so fair play there.

Overall much as expected. The Hermans are just better than us at the moment and I for one won't be expecting much next summer.
