I assume the same applies to players, but club officials can't bet on games in any competition their club enters. I'm pretty sure this extends to not being allowed to bet on, say, the FA Cup final if your team went out in an earlier round. The guy who was running Kettering Town up to about a year ago fell foul of this relating to his previous club/s, I think the number of "taken into consideration" offences ran into four figures.

Edit to add: It was a total of 3,073 charges and he was banned for five years from July 2012.

LWJ Surely Blackpool's recent sending offs look suspect? 3 after 90 minutes the other day?

Dunno. That's such an unusual event that any money at all being placed on it happening would be bound to set bells ringing.

Kitson pretty much revealed that it went on at our club too, in his first SF book.....said that players used to bet on which side got the first throw in. Hence why we always used to lay the ball back to Sidwell, straight from kick off, who lamped it to the wings, over hitting it and out for a throw.

Dai Brainbocs I don't understand how it works. Assuming you can't place a legitimate bet on player X getting a red or yellow card at a certain point in game, everyone knows it's a dodgy market beforehand because you can only do it with an illegal bookie. So if lo and behold he does get booked or sent off, the chances are the bookie can work out that the player has been paid, particularly if - strictly hypothetically, of course - he does something as blatant as punch an opponent in the bollocks for no good reason. So why offer a market on that sort of thing if you know you can be cheated?

You can bet on any player to get sent off, rather than a specific player to get sent off. You can also sometimes bet on the first player to be booked.

The thing about this betting is that the bets are being placed in ilegal bookies, generally in the far east. The bookies take the bets, half the time knowing its dodgy, then lay it off to another bookie in another country and so the cycle of dirty money continues to swill around. Sometimes the dodgy bookies will even make a profit on it because they know it's it's a fix.

UK bookies aren't the ones who are being done over, they've actually do pretty well in communicating with each other if there are any suspicious betting patterns.
