Good piece in Zonal Marking about the space afforded to Bale, largely due to the commitments that Inter had to make elsewhere in defence. Credit to Redknapp's tactics, which isn't something I thought I'd ever write out.

Big Foot Is Bale better than Giggs was at 21?

Not in the same league

^^^ 'Greed, Giggs had been doing it consistently and a lot better for 3 or 4 years by the time he was 21.

I'll give you consistency, Bale has quiet days. But a lot better? I take it you don't mean a lot better than Bale's performance last night, as that honestly has to be one of the greatest left wing performances I've seen.

Giggs took a while to refine his decision making and final delivery (as do all wingers) but I'd say he was even quicker and more skillful than Bale currently.

Bale is possibly ahead of him in the quality of his balls into the right areas though. He's also stronger on the ball.

I'd have a Giggs over Bale at the moment though. If that changes in 10 years time then Bale has had an outstanding career.

Totally agree. Giggs had more skill (Bale is very direct) but Bale's delivery on the run is superb.

I'm going to say yes because Giggs was putting in performances like Bale's last night when he was 17/18, by the time he was 21 everyone just took for granted how good he was.

Don't remember ever seeing ryan giggs giving two absolute poundings to the european champions both home and away like bale has done.

Bale is good but just relies on his pace to be effective in games and is only left footed

Messi is quite good, but only relies on a good finish and ability to take the piss out of people.

Lets just see how Bale's career goes first. He could just be a 5 minute wonder.

Lets revisit this when he has as many medals as Giggsy.

Why bother with the skills if you can knock it and run past people?

Only if they double up on you should you look to be more tricky, if you have an advantage over someone then use it

He won't come close to winning the number of medals Giggs won. Doesn't mean he won't be as good though and frankly I reckon he will be a better player for Wales than Giggs ever was.

I'm more worried about what England will be doing at the other end. I suppose if Ramsey,Bellamy and Collison are all fit and Bale is still playing really well Wales will have a chance but still think they will lose both games.

But Giggs did become consistently the best winger in the league by the same age and did the same to Premiership teams week in week out. I'm sure he did a pretty good job in Europe as well, you know, helping them win the thing for starters.

Aren't you too young to really remember Giggs coming through at the age of 17 and quickly becoming a massive massive talent?

I think finerain's point is that at the same age (I'm imagining 1993 through to 1995, ish), United were relatively mediocre in Europe and I can't remember Giggs shining in particular.

I don't think he was around when they won the ECWC.

By the time United won it, Giggs would have been mid-20s.
