Fox Talbot
LoyalRoyalFan Why do Swindon hate Gillingham?

Play-off semis in the 80s IIRC.

Wycombe v Colchester similar kind of hatred - this from non-league days in early 90s.

What about Reading and Sheffield United?

Aldershot are the team I would consider our rivals.
Simply because next to Reading it is probably the nearest ground. I also know an Aldershot fan who basks in our failures (Not so much these days of course.) They really do dislike us.
I don't really get the Swindon Reading thing. QPR Aldershot, even CheLOLsea and Brentford are nearer to us in East Berks than the farmers down the M4.

Seen us play away at Oxford – both grounds, Swindon and Aldershot. And the first two, numerous times at home. Only ever seen violence/trouble away from the ground when Oxford where the opposition. Stuff inside the ground was no different to that you get at almost every game – pretty harmless stuff.

Oxford is over 2 miles closer to Reading, (shortest practicable road route) than Aldershot and Swindon only a couple of miles further in the opposite direction than Stamford Bridge, (and much quicker to get to by train). Swindon is as far from Bristol as it is from Reading. Brentford and Watford are closer than Swindon and although we have had some 'exchanges' with both clubs, neither have been considered as established and serious rivals

As such, it can't be all down to geography. Obviously proximity is a factor, but I see this also as very much a cultural thing. Perhaps those who began to follow Reading after the promotion of 2002 will come to see Derby as rivals, owing to the derogatory remarks by their then manager. Or Wolves, for their constant jibes aimed at Reading, their 'feeder team'.

This is such bullshit. Wolves don't even talk about us...they are rivals with the other west midlands teams and we haven't faced them for years. We've never faced them in a competitive game since they bought a few ex reading players. The fact a couple of monkeys on internet forums make snide remarks every now and then( which tbh I have not even seen them) does not equate to constant jibes
