Does that mean no Oxlade-Chamberlain?

And I think Downing got one assist, actually.

Pepe the Horseman ‏ @Matt_Lawton_DM
Hearing Downing and Defoe in Eng squad. No Lennon or Sturridge. Other 21 names in Mail today right.

Beggars belief if true.

Just seen the ‘probable squad’ in the Mail, if that tweet on the previous page is correct, disappointing that for Downing’s inclusion it’s Lennon that loses out and not Milner, a player I find utterly pointless.

If we want a left winger to be able to get to the by-line and get crosses in (perhaps when Carroll is on and we're looking to a plan B) then who would be better than Downing?

Yes, because they really combined so well this year.

Hasn't worked all season at Liverpool so I see NO reason why you would expect it to work for England. I'd rather have A Cole as a left winger for the sake of excluding Downing.

Just seen it. No Downing or Defoe. Only 4 strikers. The Ox is in. Adam Johnson included.

Would be ridiculous if Sturridge doesn't go IMO

He's got similar number of goals to Defoe, Welbeck and Crouch.

I don't know... I like him, and he had a great start, but his form in the second half has been poor.

One of my criticisms of Dalglish would be that Downing has hardly played on the left, he's usually be put on the right which stops him doing what he does best.

He's not had a good season no, but doubt there's been too many instances of him on the left and Carroll upfront. His poor assist record is more to do with Liverpools failure in front of goal than Downings ability to put the ball in the right areas from the left.

I wouldn't see him as a starter, but as an option off the bench I could understand the logic.
