sandman Thank you very much Fabregas. Now I have to live in the most deluded country in the World with them all claiming they're the World Champions (That Brummie d1ckhead Chiles has already started). Cheers.

I'm not sure you quite have the intellect to understand Chiles' tone.

How very droll. You should get yourself an agent instead of sitting in the dark handling yourself.

I have and I don't like watching it. At least Reading have the excuse that they play at a level where teams lack the same sort of quality you get at the highest level. It's a bit different on the international stage.

Some of the behaviour on this thread since the final whistle is proving my point quite well tbf.

You may have a point. Actually, no, what you have just said is all very nonsensical.

sandman Like I said they worked hard, nicked it and well done but I just can't respect a team playing football like that especially one who were supposed to be at home.

So we should have played into Spain's hands?

Does anyone know of a site that has individual stats of passes attempted and completed from the game? Would love to compare ours to Spain.

I'm really not sure what some of you lot want from a team.

This generation of Spainish players is one of the best the game has ever seen. What they sometimes lack in cutting edge they more than make up for in composure, technique and ability to pull teams all over the place to create chances. There's no doubt they took this game seriously and weren't showing any signs of just going through the motions. This side has torn other top top international teams apart.

With that in mind a reasonably young, inexperienced and average England [Reserve] team have just played out a solid performance and followed a well laid out gameplan to show they can beat them. Yes Spain dominated possession, that's what they do. How many times did they seriously threaten Hart's goal? 4 or 5 times.

That's the sort of performance that can give teams belief and proves what can be done. It doesn't mean we're anywhere near the finished article of course, but it was a hard earned victory against the best team of the last 20 or so years. How about giving a bit of credit and not just excusing the fact you all called it wrong!

Agree. It should be seen as a very good result and a positive step, without meaning a great deal about our chances of making the Final in the summer, let alone winning it. One game doesn't make us World Beaters. Just World Champion beaters.

21 shots to our 3
6 corners to our 1
9 fouls to our 18
71% possession!

Outclassed and we were lucky to scrape a win. We were shite.

I'd prefer to have been tonked 4-1 if it meant we were actually playing on the same level as Spain as it happens mongdivs will get all excited thinking how great we were and how great Parker was despite his rubbish passing and him committing most fouls on the pitch. Mongdivs though fooled once again by someone showing passion.

How many of their shots were any good? They genuinely threatened our goal only half a dozen times at most. Those stats are utterly misleading. We did a job on them and the only thing that matters is 1-0. Rode our luck a little towards the end maybe, but we made it too hard for them to score.

We are far from the best team in the world and we need to recognise that. We'll never compete with the likes of that Spain team on a level playing field, so we need to go for the dirty win. I'm sure Greece aren't worried about having won the Euros without being anything special.

You'll have to explain how that one works.

Really?

Ok. you play well, have your share if possession and chances, string passes together cause them problems be unlucky with chances and they be lucky with chances so end up on the wrong side of a tonking scoreline

Pretty much the opposite of today.

You'd rather we lost to a technically superior side such as Spain but tried to play expansive football?

Or do you mean you'd rather we are as good as Spain, which is so mind-numbingly forehead-smackingly obvious that I just assumed you couldn't have meant that.

Well which one is it?

You'd rather this England team played to other teams strengths and lost?

Or you'd rather we were better? (well, no shit?!)

For what it's worth, I thought we played well today, and looked to have an equally good goalie and younger faster, defence than Spain (Pique?). Spain did put together lots of Swansea passes, but it was only once our B team came on at the end and England started hoofing it that they looked likely to trouble us. For most of the game we played well as a team, with Parker running the game.

We won't win anything becuase the egos will return and we won't bother playing as a team anymore, but for 90 minutes I was quite happy. The same thing happened thirteen years ago, the last time we played well and won le Tournoi. By the time the World Cup came along, the older shit players returned and we got knocked out.
