Royalee Andy Hughes is shit, he's another footballer praised for his 'influence on the dressing room' and 'energy', which is code for 'he's shit and has absolutely no skill or brains and I need to justify him with something so I'll pick effort'.

Must be why so many managers rate him.

And why he's been so influential in yet another promotion bid.

Royalee needs to take a chill pill on the subject of Hughes.

Andy Hughes first choice utility player for Leeds off the bench. kind of player you'd think they'll let go off once they're up.

Influential??? :|

Taking it a little far there IR. No coincidence, IMHO, that we racked up 106 points the season after he left.

Beh. Only in terms of we didn't use him to fill in in a number of positions. Shorey in form, Convey in form == no need for a thick-as utility player.

Well, we did bring in Hunt (Hughes MK II) but that's another story.

37, 42 & 6, 47 & 9

37 games for Leeds so far this season. An important player for them
42 games for us in 2001/2 and 6 goals
47 in 2002/3 and 9 goals.

A very important player in making Pardew's 4-5-1 system work.

Far more crucial to our 106 was having multiple strikers capable of 15 goals in a season and having an in form specialist left winger. Stopping using him as a utility player in a system and position he wasn't best suited to helped us.

But given you were no older than about 11 back in our last significant promotion challenge with him, it's understandable you don't really know what you're talking about.

I'd kill for a player at Reading that could score 9 goals in a season at the moment, let alone a midfielder.

Has he? I think you'll find that it has slightly more to do with Jermaine Beckford Ian.

Most crucial in our 2005/6 season was the decision to sell Andy Hughes, thus giving our team much more balance with Bobby Convey who was far superior to Hughes as he actually had an ounce of talent. You mention 2002/3 Ian, but remind me what Hughes has done between then and now apart from incur the wrath of Norwich's fans, cost Nigel Worthington his job almost single-handedly and drop down a division?

tbf, from what i read on here, both Ian and Royalee can have some slightly bizarre opinions so a little unwilling to take sides, but the idea that getting rid of Andy Hughes was more influential on our 05/06 season than bringing in Lita and Doyle is just ridiculous. For a start, Convey would have been playing most of 04/05 if it hadn't been for injuries (and taking time to settle). Hughes would have remained a useful player to have on the bench that season, probably more use than Oster, and possibly Hunt (more versatile).

Ahhh, sanity to restore some of the balance - though I have edited it a little
