Agreed, it certainly is shoddy and gives a really bad impression.

No great "in league with the PL"-conspiracy, though, it was a cock-up, pure and simple. Apparently the e-mail was due to go out on Friday but got delayed until today for technical reasons, and in the haste to send it out they forgot to update this.
