Weekend 14/15 August

Joe Hart stakes an early claim for best 'keeper in the Prem with a Hollywood Showcase of saves from the Spurs attack.

He's the only City player to turn up so far and the only reason that the first 20mins of the new Premier League season are goal less.

Incredibly, it stayed 0-0 for the duration. Excellent game, considering the lack of goals.

Incredible to think that the team we got our only home league win under Brendan Todgers are currently top of the Premier League!

No surprise though after losing 3-0 to his old mate and second most famous Blades fan in the world in Colin

Commentator quote of the weekend from Ian Darke during the Spurs game, "Clive Allen is off to watch Young Boys tomorrow". Dirty b'stard.

To be honest he was lucky to even start the season.

Royal Rother Given to Arsenal next week?

Wenger was quoted yesterday saying that he was not interested in Given. He had the chance to sign him last season supposedly but wants a keeper who will show more command in the box. And with Schwarzer having (supposedly) put in a transfer request, I think that that is more likely.

They came 8th last season, hardly a disaster.

Yep, looks like that is going to happen. He's good, but 37yo....

My own feeling is that Arsenal could really do with someone a bit younger who would become a permanent fixture for years to come. Oh well, if Wenger doesn't fancy Given, that's that.

If that's a red card then I'm a poodle. Joe Cole sent off for a tackle just before half-time, quite clearly stretching for the ball, he was late, it wasn't a great tackle, but it's a booking at most. After the various offside decisions yesterday, and a half in which Atkinson didn't let a single niggle go without whistling, I really do hope this isn't the level of refereeing we can expect this season.

"Same old Arsenal, always cheating".

Yeah that's right. The bloke's just been stretchered off the pitch. He's clearly cheating

And some people think Reading fans are mongs?

Its the consequence of the media bandwagon to clamp down on so called horror tackles, the last few seasons have seen game after game ruined by these kind of reds card. If someone goes two feet, knee height or above then fine. But seeing players sent of for mistimed challenges is getting beyond a joke. The Cole tackle was shite and deserved a yellow. It is bad the Arsenal lad got injured, but that's football, it's a contact sport, get the fcuk over it.

The same media that harp on about the good old days when men were men, have led a campaign, orchestrated by Wenger to water down the physical nature of the game.
