Forest and Leeds fined after mass brawl

by Skyline » 25 Aug 2010 11:21

Forest and Leeds have been fined by the FA after the brawl that took place during their game on August 15th.

Interesting bit here:

Gunter was retrospectively handed a three-match ban for stamping on Watt.

Both players were originally only handed yellow cards by referee Tony Bates.

So have the FA changed their (stupid, IMHO) rule that if the ref has punished the incident during the game, they can't retrospectively apply any further punishment based on video evidence?

Stab in the dark but maybe the referee gave the card for other reasons and didn't see the stamping.

Wasn't there some caveat that they could do something about incidents already punished if they were extreme cases or the referee himself refered it to the appropriate body.

That might not be right though, and I think the idea that the ref didn't see the actual stampings, and just the aftermath, is probably the right answer.
