FA Cup Semi Final - Bolton v Stoke

by T.R.O.L.I. » 17 Apr 2011 16:43

3-0 to Stoke after only 30 minutes. I did wonder at 2-0 (after just over 15 minutes) whether Bolton could produde a comeback of '95 (ouch!) proportions but can't see it now.

Wanted Bolton to win but fair play to Stoke. They might make the final an interesting game, stick it up the Citeh.

Can't think of a larger margin for a semi-final.

Embarrassing for Bolton on their big day out. Long way back home for them.

Can't help thinking that I bet Bolton fans cheered when the draw was made and they had avoided the so called big boys. Might have been better off playing one of the so called big Clubs in the end.

I don't think we've played worse than that all season. Jesus. It was the big day out, yes - and it'll likely be a very long time before that opportunity comes again.

Bolton fan quits job to watch Cup semi

A Bolton Wanderers fan has quit his £38,500-a-year job just so he can watch the FA Cup semi-final tie with Stoke.

Ian Wagstaff was a sheet metal worker in Australia and was told he could not have time off work to travel to the England to watch the game.
Therefore, the 52-year-old, who has been based in Brisbane for 23 years, decided to work out his notice in his Aus$60,000 job and travel 10,000 miles to watch the match.

I wonder what he thought of the game

I do hold grudges. That f*cking hurt in '95 losing to those mongoloids in the manner we did, dead on our legs and players going down like flies and that cheating dipper Macateer up to his Birkenhead tricks.

Mostly because I wanted the Premiership to have to endure Elm Park for at least one season, for the newly-monied glossier clubs' fans to have to come and stand on the Town End and get soaked when it rained and the rise taken out of them in that lovely 'Southbank way'. So that the commentators and pundits could discuss our 'shambolic' surroundings and describe us as 'paupers'.

Bolton Wanderers ruined that dream for me, and for that reason alone, it is with a smile of satisfaction and the sense of the evening of old scores that I witnessed their Wembley capitulation against the Potters. I hope it hurt, you monkeys! Still serves you right for having a supermarket on your old away terrace at Burnden, and then for naming your new ground after a training shoe.

'I feel good!' You used to play after games played at the Reebok.

I bet you don't today.

Which means I do. Cheers.

Well said, Mr Herring. 95 still haunts me and I was delighted that Notlob had their butts fu cked. I was watching rather dispassionately, but when Stoke went 2-0 up within the first twenty minutes, suddenly the thought that Bolton turned around that score against us and that nightmare day popped into my head again. Good luck to Stoke - I would like to see them beat $ity in the final.

Ignoring the small-town bitterness for a moment, Wanderers reached the playoff final in 01 then of course the League Cup final a couple of years later, but both during Wembley's closure iirc. So yes, first time at Wembley since 95. Still... Big day out at Wembley is probably > big day out in the estates of Manchester.
