Billy Sharp

Scores for Doncaster tonight, having lost his 2-day old baby. Footballing cliche, but it does put things into perspective.

Story on Donny website: http://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/page/News/0,,10329~2502177,00.html

Well done to the ref for showing some decency and not booking him for taking his shirt off to show a message about his son when he scored.

Watching this after getting back from Forest last night certainly put my misery at an abject defeat into true focus. What a goal as well.

Well done to Billy and all around him.

Indeed - although you can bet some no-mark referee's assessor / the FA will punish the ref for said actions.

What Billy Sharp did in playing last night took some doing.

Very sad.

He should have been booked to be fair. Would the ref had also let him off if he did a two footed challenge.

Thoughts go out to him and his Missus and all that but you can't go around letting people off the hook because of mitigating circumstances.

He's declared himself ok to play, respect for that but he needs to treated like anyone else on the pitch.

By not booking him last night the ref gave the opposition an unfair advantage.

Should he have been booked for taking his shirt off and showing that message? Is that what you're talking about?

Agreed, which is why everyone would have understood if he said he couldn't play. However, the second he runs onto a football pitch to compete in a professional game what's happened in his personal life goes out of the window.

Perhaps, and if he'd tried to pick up the ball and throw it into the net then I'm sure the referee might have done something about it. However, all he did was lift up his shirt in support of his late son. It's not like Donny gained any sort of advantage from it.

And even if you want to argue that they did, I very much doubt that anyone involved with 'Boro would have had a problem with it.

Dunno why I'm bothering coz i know you're fishing, but there are some things you just shouldn't use as bait.

TMD has a point. That 15 year old kid for wycombe was booked for hugging his parents in the crowd. Referee's arent allowed to have sentiment...they enforce rules as he did there. Whilst its a nice gesture to see and great that Sharp scored, in the laws of the game he should have been booked like balotelli at old trafford.
