Why do Brighton hate us?

by LoyalRoyalFan » 03 Nov 2011 13:26

Obviously they dislike us for nicking all of there players and Coppell, but they really detest us. They still claim to be a bigger club, even though they got 6,000 at the Withdean, claiming that were a plastic club with no history

Don't think they have. History is the same whether you've spent 40 years in the top-flight or spending 40 years in the 4th division. When was the last time Brighton did anything of note?

I struggle to applaud Reading winning any game, people on here have short memories.

I don't think that dredging up a series of old threads really shows that they hate us. But when their attention is occasionally drawn to us they will express a dislike, much as we did with West Ham between the time of Pardew's departure and the 6-0.

Because we took all their best assets (not the Withdean  ) when we were the bigger club. Still a bigger club in many aspects.

Doesn't it fill you with pride knowing the rest of the country see us as nothing but a bunch of posh, gimpy, part timing plastic, quiet as mice, 2 bob w@nkers.

Both same IMO. One has a richer history, the other a richer present. Both currently on the same playing field with new stadiums etc.

One though is a lot more ambitious in the transfer market than the other and looks the more likely to enjoy better times than the other soon.

When was the last time Brighton got to the top-flight? How many years have Brighton spent in the lower leagues doing nothing until Poyet came along.

To be honest Brighton and Reading are more or less identical having spent much of their history slogging around the lower divisions. The only thing Brighton have on us is that they made an FA Cup Final once - but then so have Millwall.....

No. I know Reading have done nothing for many years but I was trying to say that Brighton have done nothing since their FA Cup Final appearance so I can't see how they can label themselves a bigger club.

It really depends on the age old arguement of how do you judge what a big club is? Is it trophies won, years in top flight, is it fan base? If the latter then we're the smaller of the two.

We might have a huge catchment area but it's also too posh for football.

Going back before the 70s Brighton possibly were one of the more local derby type games and there may have been a small rivalry between fans. These days though the rivalry they have is with Palace due to several games played in the mid 70s

Brighton have only spent about 4/5 years in the top flight so it's hardly anything of any note.

And as for all their whinging about us nicking their players and manager; that amounts to Coppell who we waited 6 weeks or something to actually get so they could get through a complex run of games and sort themselves a new boss and with the permission of Dick Knight (they then got Mark McGhee in and he finished Coppell's job by getting them promoted at the end of the season).

The only player I can recall that we've nabbed is Sidwell who was only on loan at the time and its not our fault if they couldn't make an offer for him. Coppell certainly never actually bought any players off Brighton and generally the Brighton players we have signed have not been successes; Codner, Brooker etc. Can't recall the last time we actually bought a Brighton player (apart from that really obvious one I've totally forgotton of course).
