Blackburn / Venky's

by The Rouge » 08 May 2012 08:28

I am a bit of a football obsessive but I must admit the details of this saga have mostly passed me by...

What have Venky's actually done wrong? Have they taken money out of they club/not invested?
From afar it looks like they have stuck by their manager and the fans have hardly supported their team on the pitch with all the constant protests..

..but would like to be enlightened.

PS I saw an advert they made with Jason Roberts eating chicken

Summary?

They came in with big promises of spending money and then didn't.

Got fans hopes up by mentioning players like Ronaldinho and hoping to convince Maradona to manage them.

Hired Kean for no apparent reason, and turns out Kean's agent is the agent that helped bring Venky's to the club.

Got rid of experienced back room staff at the club and took ages to replace them, if at all.

I'm a bit surprised Kean hasn't had a breakdown.

Being left alone to carry the can with thousands and thousands of fans baying for your blood week after week, month after month must be a hard thing to deal with. He looks a little quivery to me but he must be made of some pretty stern stuff. I'm sure the salary helps though. And the therapy it pays for.

Thanks Wimb, I will read that. I remember them being linked with Ronaldihno etc...

Just wondered if the race thing comes into it at all - given the polarity of the area.

Problem he has, is that he'll get sacked next season and then nobody will want to hire him again......unless he goes to a club in trouble, who can't afford a top manager, and then the same will happen to him again thats happened at Blackburn

Probably right on all counts there but I could just about see a struggling Championship club taking a chance on him mid season.

Thing is though, he does appear to be a pretty low-key unassuming bloke who won't live a flashy lifestyle and this year or so (+ severance package) will quite possibly have set him up for the rest of his life.

He'll have paid an emotional price but probably worth it if he comes out of it with a 7 figure bank balance - which isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

He seemed to be a pretty respected coach so he'll have a job within football again. He was given a pay rise in December so any pay off he'd get from being sacked would probably make up any financial shortfall. If he's good enough he'll get another job some day.

I don't think he should have to have put up with the abuse he has but at the same time he hasn't been getting results in 18 months in the job so can't feel that sorry for him. Yes they've had injuries but even with the off-field problems but the problems with Givet and Samba don't exactly reflect well on his man management skills...

Is it just me who thinks there is something very unlikeable about Keen though?

As i said before, he was my coach when i was at Reading as a kid and was a sound bloke - very friendly and even when i didn't get taken on he went out of his way to get me trials at another club (Portsmouth), which he didn't have to do. Maybe he is suited to coaching rather than managing though.

Bradley Orr's words of praise were quite powerful though - he obviously meant them.

^^^ Like TB1 and possibly TB2 Colin Lee was also a much better coach than he was a manager

Funny thing I heard (on radio5live last night) is that supposedly the Venky's thought Blackburn was a franchise and that there was no relegation from the Premiership.

Quite the opposite, he seems pretty nice to me and has been dealt an appaling hand this year that he has somehow dealt with in the face of ridiculous abuse from the most retarded fans in the world*

*NB that 's Blackburn's fans, not Reading's

The pundit they had on (can't remember his name now but he was Blackburn related) was fairly adamant that this was the case. Personally I can't believe it either, but he was asked 2 or 3 times.
