I've definitely signed Tommy Smith, no, Gylfi um er...

by Very near...far away » 26 Jun 2012 22:30

History repeats - in 2009 we were bound to get Tommy Smith, but somehow Rodgers missed out. This year Rodgers gets his own move sorted out, and it appears a given that he's taking Gylfi with him...but, oh, wait.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012 ... on-swansea

Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead of Liverpool and Swansea City in the pursuit of Gylfi Sigurdsson after agreeing a €10m (£8m) fee with Hoffenheim for the Iceland midfielder.

Spurs, who are without a manager, hope to complete a deal for the coveted 22-year-old by the end of this week, but they have still to agree personal terms with the player. Their approach to Hoffenheim comes amid serious doubts over the future of Luka Modric at White Hart Lane, with Real Madrid linked with the Croatian.

Liverpool had been confident of signing Sigurdsson following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as manager. The midfielder flourished under Rodgers on loan at Swansea last season and the pair have spoken several times since a proposed £6.8m transfer to the Liberty Stadium collapsed as a result of the manager's departure for Anfield.

Michael Laudrup, Rodgers's replacement at Swansea, has conceded defeat in attempting to resurrect a permanent move to south Wales for the Iceland international. Liverpool's interest in Sigurdsson remains but the club fear that Spurs are firm favourites to complete the deal.

As long as he doesn't end up at Swansea I'll be happy.

If the options are Swansea, Spurs and Liverpool there can be no ideal outcome. :(

Ideal Why would he want to join tuttnumb, they have no manager, and are in dire straits financially, having to now offload their biggest stars to cover the black hole left behind after Redknapps financial acrobatics.
He'd be joining a side where they sell off Bale, Modric and Van der Vaart and anyone else worth more than £1.50p, and are likely to bring in a disastrous manager if you believe the rumours.. he'd be better off joining Reading.

you spout more shite than a broken sewer pipe.

Yet again another article with no mention of Reading being in the running. ITK's big windup but having a lucky guess is well and truly over!

Makes sense with him being a United fan and Spurs being United's feeder club that he join the Spuds. Like I said yesterday, Spurs need someone who can play well after January.

I don't see either Spurs or Liverpool as potential relegation candidates. I see Swansea as definate contenders without Sig. It's going to be difficult for them.

Spurs are a very good footballing side and that will appeal to Gylfi, but it’s strange that the article states Tottenham are favourites even though they are yet to speak to the player.

They're based in London and they'll pay him a lot. That sounds perfect for him.

He'll definitely go to Spurs. He wants to play for Man Utd one day and that will become highly unlikely if he plays for Liverpool.

Has anyone ever moved from Liverpool direct to Utd? I can only think of Owen playing for Liverpool and then Man U but that was after Real and Newcastle.

Forgive me, I thought it was Liverpool he played for, not Everton. And he went the wrong way as well.

But still, I was only 6 at the time.
