Petition to get Slough Town FC back in Slough

by royal_ross » 10 Apr 2013 21:17

My local side Slough Town haven't had a ground in Slough for more than 10 years now. A site became available when a special needs school vacated its premises but now it is in threat of being taken over by another school.

They are campaigning against the Department of Education who have demanded Slough Council give that site to the school, something the council is fighting against.

Non league clubs are the roots of local communities, I live 10 mins away from the old ground Wexham Park, it is sadly sitting there hosting no games. The club enjoys a very decent fan base, 400-500 each home match at Beaconsfield SYCOB FC, it used to get 1,000 in Slough.

If you could sign the e-petition there maybe a chance Slough gets its club back in the town. Remember where super Mac came from? :D

Thank you in advance.

Great minds think alike, just put this on the Non-League thread! Good cause, well worth repeating!

Slough get a very good crowd for the league and the fact they are homeless. No need to fudge the numbers.

Apologies, somebody told me that was the average attendance, as I don't go to a lot of games.

Guilty as charged!

Would never say no to another school but as there already is a Sikh school in Slough, a very good one as well and that a Sikh Councillor has said that he doesn't believe it should be built, I can deal with the guilt. :D

The fact that this site had been given permission to Slough Town for nearly a year to develop a new ground makes it more ridiculous.

Wahey! Very droll...

FAO Royalist, fair point about attendances. They are averaging 230 at 'home' which is considerably more than any others in the Division. Also their away games provide the highest attendances for nearly all the other clubs, so the support is there and would most probably grow if they weren't so far out of the borough.

the mere mention of Slough Town evokes memories of that FA Cup tie.

Thanks Cobi.

Just had a quick look on the e-petitions website, typing Arbour (for Arbour Vale) in the search bar, and saw the Rename Southampton Airport 'Benny Hill Airport' only had 1 signature...
