England vs Germany 19/11/13

by Ian Royal » 19 Nov 2013 20:37

So 15 minutes in. England playing some good stuff without goal threat. Townsend looks quality. Lallana's barely touched the ball and Cleverley keeps giving the ball to Germany.

Perfect description.

We look decent, just need to address that final third, bit like Reading FC

German look completely comfortable and we don't look getting in behind them at any point.

Include Sturridge trying to over complicate things and Walker passing into trouble.

And there we go, England fall apart and Germany score. All seemed to come from Cole leaving their left winger in acres of space and then its panic stations from the corners that Gerrard kept giving after coming to the defence's resuce. Smalling could have been tighter on Mertesacker.

This could actually be a WC knockout game. England play well against better opposition but ultimately fail to make the good play tell and get suckered.

Lallana's been very quiet and Cleverly's crap, but otherwise they've been pretty good. The goal was against the run of play.

Germany having a field day playing in the pockets between our midfield and defence. Gerrard and co need to do better defensively. Other than that we look average against Bermany.

Half-arsed German line-up and attitude yet they are still 0-1 up :|

Christ what a depressive dirge from the studio pundits. You'd think England have been terrible.

I saw plenty of decent football. The shape's not quite there. I think Lallana could do with tucking in a bit and letting Rooney / Sturridge roam out to the left a bit to pull Germany out of shape. At the moment we seem to be playing the standard 4-4-2 that Germany can lap up. Especially with Lallana barely in the game.

Cole's certainly been found wanting a few times today.

Lallana coming into it. I like him, an exciting footballer. And Townsend, a proper winger. Who'd have thought it a year ago, eh?

I prefer this England. Hodgson is making us a better team, we're playing better football, it's evolving.

Agreed, and it was exactly the same with the Chile game.

Of course it's not been perfect but apart from some weak defending for their goal that first half was more than alright but their analysis is so negative.
