is Kevin Friend the worst ref ever?

by windermere_royal » 24 Nov 2013 00:14

Awful awful decision to send off Wes Brown today, I know he has some competition in the worse ref stakes but surely he stands alone? can`t forget him in our Arsenal 7-5 game. failing to send off an Arsenal defender , failing to give an obvious penalty just because we were 4-1 up, then playing as much injury time for Arsenal score the leveller..total and utter w*nker!!!

It was a far worse decision not to send off the Everton player today. Wes Brown made a violent lunge at the ball, and got all of it, but his over-dramatic follow through caught the Stoke player. It was a very strict red card, and probably the harshest one we have seen this season, but that doesn't make the referee a bad one.

The media needs to get rid of its assumption that sending players off is a black mark against a referee, and that somehow a referee with no red cards against his name this season is doing well. Football was shit when refs didn't send off players.

Both poor decisions. As Rodgers pointed out, Suarez would have been all over the back pages if he had made that tackle on Mirallas, it was appalling.

You're right.

But he is a bad referee.

I dont know how to quote but Mirallas was just getting his own back so the ref said "fair play"

Wayne Rooney's was an awful decision as well - possibly the least comprehensible. Liverpool and Everton players survive their red card offences, but the Sunderland man didn't.

This is beginning to feel like 20 years ago when every week Brian Moore would praise referees for their common sense as they decided not to send off Liverpool players for punches and gbh. Small teams would still get red cards though.
